if circular 8' in diameter would suffice but if rectangular then 4'x12' would be perfect for them and atleast 2' deep for both i will post pics when i am done with my bbig aro pond but my little grow out aro pond is in my gallery

and about the only aros that you can get to live together are blacks or silvers and sometimes they still fight real bad

IMO aro ponds are not worth it because they look better sideways

I don't agree. I had my silver in a indoor pont, and it was rally cool to see him from above. And so fun to feed him with crickets.

watching a fully grown silver in action from the top down is still pretty nice...
sides, aros do best in ponds. give your aro the best you can give, get it a pond today!

Maybe if the pond is not too big a bog standard pond filter should do but thats what I think you are looking at $100-$150 for a good one..... I think.

bio balls are great can be expensive for a lot try pot scrubbers or lava rock for cheapo ways.... coffee filters get expensive try paint strainer bags froma paint store.... floss is great go to a fabric store and by big sheets of 100% polyester batting and cut to size ... carbon can be expensive too so once you get the biomedia seeded good you wont need that at all

Is this pond going to be outdoors, or indoors?

Here I think, that above view is great for a change, but aros are best from their sides. My tank I can see them from the sides, but it is low enough that when I feed I can still look down upon them. Even if the pond is at ground level you can put a glass pane in on the side.

there's this guy in singapore who bred an x-back and a red asian aro pair in his backyard pond

yeah i know, im just letting you in on some info that a pond is possible for aros, even breeding them at home. it dont matter if you have it in or outside your house as long as you got the space and besides, wyldfa is right, aros arent that nice from the top unless you get x-back golden asians( aros that actually have golden color at the back portion) which you cant coz its illegal in the states. if you plan to keep silvers, stick to a large, very large tank. you'll appreciate arowana beauty better that way . but then again...........

I think it would be coolto have an aro pond. It would be even better if the pond was big enough that you could swim with the aro.

You could also try doing what this guy has done and get the best of both worlds by including a viewing window in the side...

i have an aro pond but the bigger one should be done by the end of the summer i changed it from being a liner to a sealed concrete tank with a window.. but it will still be around 5000 gallons... i havent drawn up the filter yet i have been considering many options but it will probally be a huge wet dry with a good size prefilter...

to be honest a pond is a great idea to see them from above but to be able to see them from the sides as well would be welll worth it. i know tis is a bit of topic but if u wanted to make it an earth pond to give it a natural look how would u do that

A 4x12ft is what Arowanna farm hatcheries, use to breed Arowannas in asia they put a male and a felmale together. that is why i built mines 4x 4x 12 so one day i too can breed Rtc's and ARowannas...

Do you have to worry about Aros Jumping out of the pond? I know that in aquarium settings the tops of the tanks need to be weighted down. So do you have barriers or walls on the sides? Or is it not a problem?

You treat that whole area as a pond. I have NOT done this. I do not know for sure if it would work. I do know that one of the major cost issue is humidity control/ventilation. One would need to utilize some sort of heat exchanger.

This sounds like an ambitious project, I can't wait to see what it will look like when completed! I have always wanted to try a pond with a window,

you generally have to use pool or spa heaters, to be more cost effective.

it still be alot more exspensive
