Question of the day...picked up NGT...5-6"...currently in a 30g Quarantine tank..I plan on putting him in a 90g tank, probably next weekend.

I understand that if kept in freshwater - hard, alkaline water is best...that being the case, what kind of PH are we talking about? In simplest terms, I've always understood alkaline to mean higher pH.

If thats the case, would similar conditions to rift lake cichlids be ideal, and would some of the milder haps make better tankmates than say some milder central/south american cichlids.

Any info would be appreciated.

i would keep a small content of salt in the tank, 7.0-7.8 ph, and 77-80degrees. And they seem to be ok with other tankmates, just don't under estimate the size of their mouth!

i wouldn't sweat it. all my ngts are in pure fresh for a few years and no problems at all.
