G'day, I don't have any pics of my fish, but after years of just having catfish, I decided to branch out into other natives. I have 2 Barramundi's 2 golden perch, 1 silver perch and an Eel tailed catfish. Aussie natives rule!!!

JOSH R
04-21-2009, 5:22 AM

dingoofus
04-21-2009, 5:34 AM
Lol, Mine are tiddlers, Me 2 Barras are around the 14 centremetre mark, the silver perch is maybe 10, same with the Murray cod. The 2 yellow bellies are about 5 cm, and me Eel tailed catfish is around 13cm.

Mate I hope you don't mind me adding you to me friends, mainly because I need friends and you have a Barra in ya display, lol.

JOSH R

dingoofus
04-21-2009, 5:43 AM
I go for a bit of a combo, from pellets, to feeder fish, to shrimp. I used to feed them the odd mosquito fish til I found out that it's apparently illegal to do so,lol.

JOSH R
04-21-2009, 5:47 AM
a few days a go gave my barramundi about 12 of them are they iilegal to catch

dingoofus
04-21-2009, 5:50 AM
Apparently, I know it's illegal to release thm into creeks, and rivers, etc. I don't know if it's actually illegal? I actually reckon if everyone who owned fish went out and caught mosquito fish to feed to there fish, it'd solve the whole problem, lol. But I'm going to play it safe and not catch them anymore, until I think it's safe to catch them.

JOSH R
04-21-2009, 5:53 AM
same. i feed my two barramundi feeders prawns and pellets

Drew'n'Kylene
04-21-2009, 5:56 AM
EFF anyone who says it's illegal to do anything. I feed my O mossie fish all the time. It's the only thing that puts a dint in the population of the little pricks around here. A couple thousand in a tank in the shed with a **** box filter. A few days later oscar food. Yummy nom nom nom

JOSH R
04-21-2009, 5:57 AM

Lol I used to catch around 40 of them, and put them in my tank with my 2 young 12 cm Barras, then I'd turn the lights off, come back in an hour and they'd all be gone.

JOSH R
04-21-2009, 5:59 AM

JOSH R
04-21-2009, 6:00 AM

dingoofus
04-21-2009, 6:02 AM
I like the whole cocky thing Barras do, like how they go right next to the fish, and just sit there ,then they randomly eat it, lol.

I find you gotta filter and do some water changes on the little Mfkers before feeding em(mossie fish) to me fish. But thats me and thats an oscar i'd say barras a little more hardy than an O. Hey josh how big do those barras get in a tank. Could you keep em in a 4 footer?????
Me mate had one in a tank with a toga one night and not he next morning....LOL

JOSH R
04-21-2009, 6:04 AM
ooo and not to mention that they make great live bait for redfin!!!

dingoofus
04-21-2009, 6:04 AM
Here's my suggestion to solve the mosquito fish problem. We heavily stock every waterway with Barramundis and sooty grunters. I should suggest that to ole peter garrett, lol.

JOSH R
04-21-2009, 6:05 AM

JOSH R
04-21-2009, 6:08 AM

JOSH R

dingoofus
04-21-2009, 6:17 AM

JOSH R
04-21-2009, 6:22 AM

I had a bit of a scare last night..... my barramundi was swimming vertical. It was like his bottom end was too heavy and looked like he was sinking. I quickly moved him into a larger tank (cooler water, lower PH). I didn't think he'd pull through. This morning I went and checked on him and he is swimming ok. He seems to have a strange bend in his tail. Not sure what's going on.

Any ideas?
