Is it just me or is $8.99 seem wat too much for a fish that demands to be in large schools?
These lfs's and pet stores know they need to be in groups and the price doesnt reflect that. A good group foir loaches is about 10, now add that up and you have spent a fortune.:swear: :swear:

I prefere yo-yos, dojos, and horsehead loach. yoyos are a cheap, better looking botia, dojos: cheap, active, can live in almost any fw tank(water wise), can live quite a while after it jumps out of tanks (unless you have cats), and I had a 5" horsehead loach that took small gravel into its mouth, tumbled it, and cleaned it thouroghly, then deposited it out its gills. never liked the look or price of clowns (and khulis). I understand clowns can get well over a foot wich caches my interest, and they are intelligent. i'll give em a shot

Clown loachs are kind of a seasonal fish. Sometimes you can get them cheap and some times you have to pay a lot. My LFS can have them from $2 to $14 depending on the time of year, but ussually I can get 5 for $20.

Don't need a really big group. Two will do just fine in a community tank.
I bought two that were about 1.5 inch a couple of years ago. They are now about 6 inch in a tank with wild Discus and wild Angels and wild cardinals.

Clowns can live a long time. One record claims 40 years. Anyway you can start with 3 fish, add a couple more later on and so on. When you have something like this it will be worth it! (not mine... maybe someday... picture from loachesonline).

I think I must live in the most expensive state in the world to buy clown loaches. My local fish store has a price tag of $20.00 each or 2 for $35.00. :swear:

If they get any more active than the two I have, the water at the top will be boiling:D
you think that's expensive?
I pay $20 a piece for 2" clown loaches here.
and I did.
I have a school of about 12 now.
I remember back in the 90's when clown loaches were like $3 for a 1-2" specimen. Now they're around $8. It's definitely not inflation, not all of it at least. Maybe it's due to the wild population being overfished? What do you guys think? Years from now, CL's will be listed as endangered, so no matter how expensive they are right now, I'm going to stock up. My dad and I regularly clean out petsmart and LFS of their clown loaches!
EDIT: I should probably try TFD shouldn't I? What's the survival rate of the fish you guys order? I'm thinking about getting a huge order of 2-3" clown loaches next time they are on special.
