If the HR669 was really sapposed to be about invasive species prevention (doubt that), then i got a solution!

though it will take some adjusting and definitely funding...

my idea is that the pet stores start a digital logging system.

when you purchase a fish, you will have it written on your record.
the stores will have records of every fish you poses and a general date the fish may die. once this date comes up you will be called to update the status of your fish. all fish corpses must be returned to the pet store (or presented to them if you want to bury/bronze it), that way each fish is accounted for.

if you miss your due date for inspection or you claim the fish is alive for an unusually long period after the average life span, you will have to confirm its status. failing to turn in the corpse with no evidence the fish is alive or under your possession will be in violation.

if people take the time to count stock, there will definitely be time to set a system up like this!

what do you guys think? a step in the right direction?

Who needs MORE gov't regulation???? America is the "land of the free and the home of the brave", not the land of the most regulated!! It is supposed to be a gov't for the people and by the people, not a gov't for the gov't and a gov't for the politicians! Less gov't is better!!

There can be no compromise! Why? I'll let an industry insider explain it best.........

"......compromise in a legislative forum gives credibility to the opponents position and guarantees that something will be passed. The Human Society of the United States (HSUS), The Nature Conservancy, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), Protect Our Earths Treasures (POET) and the rest of their fruitcake friends are not looking for a knockout with HR669, they just want a foot in the door. Their stated goal is the elimination of all animals as pets by 2050 and they have forty years to achieve their goal........"

Who wants to give them that "foot in the door"????? It's a losing proposition!

what if a fish gets eaten? and with billions and billions of pets in the US, that would be pretty much impossible.

What about breeding? Don't get me wrong, ideas and solutions are great, but monitoring fish would be an expensive and extensive effort on both parts, owners and auditors.

zzz... they arent going banckrupt from their method of business... just the fact that we are living in digital times now.

you guys aren't grasping the concept. put your paradigms aside! this can work with adjustments. and i doubt it would cost much, digital info is EZ.

fine, they can simplify the system and have certain species of fish that MIGHT/will be problematic and only log those guys electronically ie. Piranhas, snakeheads, etc. or other invasive fish that are a known pest.

this system is not "Taking away your liberties" sir, its allowing you to own fish you like while making sure they live their lives and are disposed of properly so that irresponsible activity will be kept to the utmost minimum.

Blockbuster is going Bankrupt too!

I just want to know, because I'm in Australia and have no clue about your laws, but what about the bloke with his exspensive Barramundis? will people like him have to surrender their exspensive fish?
