which pellet do u feed ur rays:

Hikari carnivore
Hikari massivore
cichlid gold
other

you can state why u chose a certain one over the others.

i feed my rays Hikari Carnivore, im wondering if one of the other choices is better. is there something better that i can find at my LFS?

i like sinking carnivore for my rays because the can swallow wthout chewing them so there is no mess. they grow way faster on pellets than anything else!

I feed both massivore and carnivore but in limited quantaties. I find that my filters need to be cleaned more often when feeding them. I also notice a bit of a stench when feeding them. Carnivore to me also seems to stain the water a bit.
As far as growth goes my rays that eat the pellets mostly seem to have a good growth rate and allways appear in good health but they would probably be the same if shrimp was there main source.

how big is your female getting to be?

Mine has not grown much in the last 9 months, she has been pregnant for that long and is on a pellet diet with occasional shrimp and smelt.

she is a good 15" her first preganancy she was 11" grew to 13" during it, and then when she gave birth the second litter she was 15" your female is actually who i was talking about, I find it strange that yours was pregnant first but mine surpassed her in size so quickly

her or my male has not really grown much in the past few months... they are about 2.5 years old. My male is about 10.5" and female about 12.5", my male is always thick and full looking.. maybe you feed more than me?

I use to feed shrimp almost daily and now i feed it about once a week and pellets the rest of the week.

All of them! Varied diet is best IMO.

Debating whether or not pellets help increase size doesnt make any sense. There are way to many factors that effect size...

does anyone know the actual difference between the 3 choices, other then size?

i have 4 motors in the same tank. 3 of them started out at the same size. of those 3 only 2 eat pellets and of those same 3 the ones that eat pellets grow the fastest. it may be that after i feed the pellets they eat some of the other food (krill, silversides) also but their bellies all look as fat. not very scientific... ps.. the 3 that eat pellets all have better color and shed their stingers way more often.

i feed mine massivore once or twice a week..i start with carnivore, when they're large enough to handle massivore, i switch..pellets are conveient when i dont want to mess with live and am feeling lazy.

try the sinking carniviore. they are the same formula in a smaller pellet. new chewy mess. they just get swallowed.

( read thread - post #1)

i already do! they seem to like the massivore more. i get that ''pounce'' reaction out of them with the massivore. the carnivore they will eat as well but i dont get the same reaction compared to the massivore. my bichirs love the carnivore but dont care for the massivore.

would anyone tell me how to train our rays for eating pellets?
my rays just so selective with their food, they don't efent touch a dead food,
so i usually just give them shrimp, small catfish,n earthworm,,
any idea to make them want eat dead foods?or even pellets...

u can try marinating the pellets in either blood worms, finely chopped earth worms, mysis shrimp or w.e. their eating.

last resort would be to starve them for a while. however, u should only do this if their very healthy, don't starve a dieing ray!

Nic

for pellets my first resort is to starve.... pellets dont really suck up the scent of other foods as they have there own scent....

but is there any effects if i put another fish that has already eat pellets?
last day i combined them with my RTC n they just run rapidly..-_-'

My Retric loves Hikari sinking Cichlid Gold pellets.

He's even passed over fresh chopped shrimp for them! Of course I have a weird ray, he's never really liked shrimp or krill from the beginning. But he loves to tear up de-clawed crays!:screwy:

so u put the RTC with ur ray(s) in hopes of maybe it stimulate the rays to eat the pellets? when u say, '' they just run rapidly '', do u mean they got scared of the RTC? is this what ur trying to say? this is probably not a good idea if ur rays are getting stressed out by the RTC. i would just marinate and starve.
what type of ray(s) do u have?

i'll try it again,n i'll combine it with shrimp n earthworm 4 nutrition,
its hard to get pellets here in indonesia,n its took a high price to,,:irked:

im glad to hear their eating! u can always order pellets in bulk online and i think someone on here ships them im not sure... pellets get expensive but their worth it in the end! u have to feed ur rays anyways which costs money, u might as well dish out a couple bucks more for the good stuff.

it can take awhile for a ray to adapt to new foods. my rays eat everything except feeders.... which makes no seance.... i know... im hoping when they get a bit bigger they will eat feeders. their only 6-7 '' in diameter.

they took pellets the first time i ever through them in the tank. but their favorite is mysis shrimp and dew worms.

i dont have yahoo messenger but i do have facebook, msn messanger and of course E mail. if u want any of these PM me.

i feed mine hikari carnivor , hikari massivor , trout pellets , carp pellets and frozen shrimp . the smaller ray has trouble with the bigger trout pellets but i just try feed her more of the others to compensate. they vacuum them all up regardless so im not complaining . they have eaten algae wafters in the past but i dont activly feed them to the rays.

ive tried shrimp pellets and blood worm pellets with no success . very strange to me as i thought they would love them . but there you go .
