Hi to all
Now my tank set-up is bare tank... was thinking of adding some sand beore i get my 1st pair of ray this weekend...the tank have been running for year with a few malaysian river fish inside...is it possible for me to add sand before or after the release of the pair ray

dont add the sand until after the rays are established. new rays with sand sometimes hide under the sand and dont feed. in a bare bottom tank they cant hide and you can monitor their feeding more easily.

ohh okay.. so i can just put in the sand in while the ray is in the tank :D
how about a thin layer of small gravel will that be okay ;)

im my experiences bare bottom glass is the best way to start off my rays. they can find the food more easily and that is VERY important as you will sonn find.

Dude, I may be a noob in rays,
but here's a thing or two I caught from conversations with a ray breeder :
You DONT WANNA MESS with the tank while there's a ray in it
the rays always come into the tank last
but its your tank and its your ray anyway :popcorn:
we all learn our lessons one way or the other :D

this would have helped me because i have had my baby motoro for 4 days now and i cannot tell if he is eating... he is in the tank with a baby RTC X TSN and a baby alligator gar and it is hard to see if the ray is eating because of the sand...

IMO - I would add the rays LAST. Sand first to help de-stress them if they want to hide. There is nothing wrong with a new ray that wants to hide, its natural for them to want to do this, hence it will relax them more. If they are not stressed then they are more likely to eat....

yeah i would add the sand first to destress the rays because in the wild they hide and they still eat

i disagree becuase i have had rays that will hide for days on end without eating and one i put them in a bare bottom where they couldnt hide he ate right away.

keep it bare bottom and cover the tank with something to keep it dark.... sooo much better than sand
