festae or festae cross for mystery not sure about the sex of fish

i was thinking a mayan or barred midas, possibly a hybrid.
as for the jacks, the first is a male (pretty good looking one at that) and the second a female

im sure the 1 is a hybrid of some sort.. i bought it at petsmart from the (they dont know what it was tank).. he is a pretty neat fish to watch though.. constantly rearranges the rock and plants in its tank..

thats what i thought on the dempseys but wanted more experianced opinions...thanks for the compliment on my male..
will the female get better coloring once she gets good food in her for a while, or is she doomed to be that dull..i thought females had more coloring than her, or am i wrong?

The first jd is a male, he has no color on gill plates and is more colorful along the body. Second is a female she has a lot of color on gill plate and has a duller body. Your mystery fish looks like mayan almost... he is a hybrid though.

i have seen females with better coloring but not great looking, it will not make any significant changes but could get better, but certainly not as good as the male you have

I'm going to say that the first pick is a juvi midas/red devil that has not gone through it molting yet. It should start changing color in a few weeks.

about how old are they when they start to molt.. i have had him???(call it a him since he is named satan) since mid january and there has been no color change..he is now about 4-5 inches long..what are the chances he wont molt?

here is a clearer picture od him.

Wheres all the people who know what they're talking about? That's just a juvie red devil or midas. Nothing out of the ordinary. He will peel orange once he gets bigger. Doesn't have anything but amphilophus in its blood.

The new jack dempsey is a male the one you've had for a while is a female.
