I have 4 Gf's and 3 new Koi in my pond 3800g, I believe the GF I'm referring to is just a base Comet he/she is about 8"s in length and pretty stout. I noticed the other day it is getting a blackish hue instead of its solid orange. Any reason for this? It also seems they are exhibiting spawning behavior, all the GF's are rubbing up against one another, and the one that is changing to color has a small injury (Little chink on its side). Do GF's get agressive during spawning??

Goldfish often change color, especially when they are small.

This thing is 8"s my guess is that he/she is a little over a year old......

my gold comet that is about 8" long has just recently started changing to an ivory color. Ive never seen this kind of total color change like youre having and my one fish is doing but I have seen markings change in size or disappear/reappear with growth and changes in water quality.
If the stout one is being chased by thinner, more stream line fish (males) then you prob. have some spawning happening. My females often loss scales in this period and some grow back in different colors. I have had fry change color, but a 8" changing is pretty wild.

I will post some before and after pics soon. Its pretty odd, the fish was a bright orange/gold all over and is now almost completely white.
i had the same question a few months ago:
