Hi everyone at monsterfishkeepers! I am trying to find a better background for my 100g aquarium. I have been using the ones you buy from the stores but I don't like the glossy look and also have one major problem. I am constantly getting water spots between the glass and background which make it look very ugly.

What I want to do is a flat black background but would like to avoid paint if possible. Any ideas?

I finally broke down my 125 and painted it. but if you want to avoid painting it I used to use a black bed sheet. Cut it to size and taped it to the back. You can also try construction paper, but if you already have trouble with water spots on the glossy one, you will prob have trouble with the construction paper.

either your fish splashing around, tank is leaking, filter splashing or leaking, or you are splashing when doing water changes. I make a huge mess when I do water changes, so those glossy backgrounds looked like hell when I had them.

try the bed sheet, when it gets wet it will just try after a few hours.

paint's the way to go honestly...

agreed to the above. If you do paint make sure you put down enough coats, My 125 that I painted looks nice, until sun shines directly through the window it is in front. You can see a few spots where I didn't paint evenly enough.

Just use sea view? I think gel. They sell it at pet stores near the backgrounds. It is like a glue that never dries. Smear it all over the back and you can press you background completely flat. No tape, no hassle, no air or water pockets.

no way!! I actually have never seen that before, whats it cost?

And I spray painted. I used one can, should of used two.. I stopped after the first can and went back to the store, by the time I came home it was about to rain, so I just said to hell with it and brought it in.
