great stuff! good luck with the Lents! my group is slowly sorting themselves out - a 150 is CERTAINLY not big enough! I am picking up a 300 next week for mine!

They are the same variant as yours. The larger one just is starting to color up. :)

Ray,

I guess I better work on setting up my 300gal huh? They are chillin in the 55gal for now. Bump them up to the 125gal in a few months. Finally the 300gal. :) Of course if they start getting to aggressive with each other it'll be moving time.

Great! One girl and two boys in the bags? The Noto's look awesome too BTW - a proper trio of them. . . one day I will dabble with the mini's.

Not really sure of the sex on the lents completely yet. They've got quite a lot of growing yet before I can be sure. Plus haven't really had a chance to look at them all settled in yet. Heres to hoping eh?

I HAD two pairs of the notos, but one of the females died shortly after being let out of the bag. Sucks. So now I have two males and one female. Not really a great combo. hahaha. We'll see how it works out. This is my first time keeping dwarfs. I feel like they are so delicate!

Great stuff "power" I had to put my love for crenicichla on hold due to lack of space but soon as I get a house I'm aiming for a 300g and a blue pitbull. Whats the total on the pikes up to over there?

The one in the middle bag is certainly a female, I assume that the one with the orange flare on the shoulder spot is that middle one - that orange is FANTASTIC by the way!

Too bad on the Notos - they do seem fragile, but, I bet they are no different than the larger relatives!

i got two notos as well. had three and they came with some sort of fungus like disease on the fins. two recovers and one eventually got the knife to head. turns out i have two females. seems when they are very small all the females dont show the red ocelli on the dorsal fin. its just starting to form on my one.

i must say tho. im loving the dwarf species so far. so much easier to keep a munch of them and if they get to fiesty, then its just a 20g for themselves, not a 55 or 75 like with the big guys

Thanks everyone! They are top notch fish thats for sure! Already are the dominant fish in the tank . . .

eggie ~ Yesh sir they are all eating quite well. :) Loving the mysis shrimp. Gonna try some prawns and catfish nuggets on the lents tomorrow. ;)

Its funny watching the notos eat the mysis. Its almost as big as they are. haha

Ray ~ I'm not sure with this variant, but I think the males get some pink in their dorsals as well, while the females get the white stripe in addition to the pink. I hope you're right, cuz I would be most happy with at least one female! Would suck to have all three males. At least I know of a few other people that also have the same variant, so if all else fails . . . .

Sounds like you need a male . . . ;) I would like another female!!! Two males is definitely not a good thing, two females is much more desireable for a trio. haha.

I was thinking that the white stripe is pretty obvious in the pics, when you get em into a bigger home, just flip em over, the female should be VERY obvious :) just my 0.02 - I am no expert of course, just had my hands on a lot of pikes in the last few months!

Just got done lookin at them some more, it 'appears' to be two females and one male. We'll see just how accurate that is as time progresses though eh?

That would be GREAT! the girls are better looking too! Where are those in-tank shots?

Very nice small package Jeremy! Those Noto's are some of the best dwarf Pikes - a friend of ours in Maryland has bred them if you want any tips....

Those Atabapo Lents should be spectacular when bigger ~ keep us up-dated with some growth pics! Seems like a few vendors have them available. Wonder if they'll lose most of the head-spotting as they grow. Our large pair has been disapointing,
both development some HITH, female is worse... Good luck with yours!!!!

MTN Pike - I would love to hear the breeding tips on the noto's ... have kept them twice without much luck. Considering they are found alongside with heckel discus, I always assumed they would need similiar water for breeding. While our tap water is nice for most south americans, I would need an RO unit to hit the pH 5.5 range.

Jer - More noto pics!! Especially the male dorsal fins extended!! Though I know exactly how much of a pain it is to get that shot!

If you got the same ones I got, then you got notos. ;) And yesh, they are amazing fish. The mopani wood has turned my water brown though, hahaha, so its hard to see them. Looks rather awesome actually. :)

John, that would be top notch sir. Actually one of my friends here in KC has breed the notos twice now. Rather encouraging since he is so close! :D Yay! I am not sure about the ACA in Cincy this year. We'll see I guess. Did you get some of the atabapo lents from Grey as well, or did you get some lents from Rapps? I'm not entirely sure if his are the same variant or not. Either way, post them up man!!! The one you aren't taking to the ACA of course. ;)

Phat chance on those 'red diamond' johanna! LoL! Although do have Grey looking for a few other hard to get species! :D We'll see this fall huh?

Darth ~ I think I should be able to get pictures of the dorsal, might take me a week or two, hahaha, but I'll get them dangit!

Yesh sir, notos are dwarfs like regani and compressiceps. :) Female notos will have red rimmed spots in the dorsal, while regani are normally rimmed in white. Plus the first few rays of the male notos dorsal fin are extended, kind of like a cockatoo. :)
