Umbee under different lighting

No tank light, flash. You can see more of his true colors (not yellow), but of course it's much too dark.

And this is no flash no tank light, just a small LED shop light. Best approximation of his true colors, but when you have a ~4 second shutter speed it's hard to make the fish stay still. Or your arms.

I will get a DSLR sometime, and I've ordered LED's to make a LED light for my canopy, which will hopefully get rid of the yellow. I've got two mixed strands of white and blue, 100 LED's each. Should make a big difference.

You will be amazed when you get that DSLR. If you use a couple of flashes above the tank that are triggered from the camera you will not believe the results.

He is awesome by the way! Growing nicely. As we spoke of before, if you ever decide to move him, please let me know. I have a couple of F0 females I got from Bastardfish that I would love to try to spawn him with!

it is definitely hard to capture the true colours on an umbee. i think a tripod would help with the long shutter speed when using no flash to help make it not blurry.

i really like my 6" female umbee but i was really wanting a male. they look so much better IMO. keep us posted with it's progression

Awesome fish! Why not try to get some slave flashes and keep using your current camera (for a short term solution)?

If you set the shutter speed fast enough the on board flash wont make much of a difference in the image, it'll just trigger the slaves. With slave flashes you can also use foil to reflect the light away from the tank or just diffuse the on board flash so it's not as harsh. Either way will trigger the slave flash...which can be picked up for less than $35.

Ha, yeah. I'm actually pretty competent with a camera, it just happens to be an old school 35mm. Not very good for fish photo taking. Which makes it all the more frustrating with a crappy point and shoot that I can't adjust the ISO, aperture, or shutter speed on.
