True notos? Orinoco dwarves? The missing link? You decide! Better pictures hopefully to follow. . .

Okay, we can deffinately rule out the 'colombian wallacii' that they were also selling. Reasons for this: red rimmed female instead of orange rimmed, black dorsal tips, and that red cresenant moon pattern under the eye (which now makes me wonder what those 'colombian wallacii' actually are as I thought they were really 'orinoco dwarves').
They don't have the extensions that a true noto has (my wallacii and Scat's orinocos both had seperated dorsals, just not elongated).
So I am thinking they are sp. 'orinoco dwarf' especially when compared to the pics that Scat posted here: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=171062&highlight=orinoco+dwarf (http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=171062&highlight=orinoco+dwarf)

Quite! They do look strikingly similar!! They were being sold as cf. notos though, so I'm not entirely upset. :) The search for notos continues! :D
Thanks for helpin to confirm ID ol' chap! You're top notch! ;)

Well I remember Scat saying that the orinoco dwarves look pretty much exactly like notos, minus the extended fins ... so that makes sense. The females are amazing!!!
Still I would like to see what Scat and Mt Pike say after taking a look.
And someone has to carry the dwarf pike banner!! Mini-monsters!! ((Not to mention crack for those of us who only have smaller tanks!!))

I don't have much experience with dwarves, but, they look GREAT. I wonder if the extended dorsal rays only come with age?

Or from soft water? Some apistos only grow dorsal extensions in ultra soft water. It will deffinately be interesting to see how they grow.

Indeed, we shalt see if that ultra soft water does the trick eh? ;)
