The Imperial ranger is interesting. Never seen anything like that before... the white seam tail intrigues me. The only other pleco I have seen with the whiteseam, and rounded tail is the Ancistrus Dolihopterus.

A good site... although the common names seem to be made up by whoever made the site.
first looks like a pseudacanthicus sp. but i really like the rounded tail on the other

Yeah that second one is beautiful. I really like it. Can we get the link to the site
You mean this Ranger Pleco?
I've imported them before, but unfortunately after people do research and find out they look alot like mini Gibby Pleco, they pass on purchasing it.. The cool pattern is only a juvenile thing.
well to me, that looks nothing like my gibby, and the round tail. is def not something you see in every pleco
Oh, and they are TINY when they come in with the cool pattern..
That one in the 2nd picture is a smaller one, looks like they have alot of color variants as juvies.. or the pattern just changes rapidly between 1cm-4cm..

Good to know... but the pictured pleco has a different body coloration... can you get in some of those, or know if that is just the juvy color for a more common name....?
No, your not understanding me.. When you they get to adults they look like Gibbys kind of.. Heres the link. Notice XoticAquatix has a picture for a juvie :)
http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/loricari/glyptope/1295_6.PHP
And it has been determined they have a number of color and pattern variants as juvies.. As you would notice on planetcatfish ;)

Actually the one to the left of your finger, has similar coloration. I think your right, just a lot of color variation.

I've heard that before, and don't doubt it at all. Just look at juvie orangeseams... they loose the color in there tail.. when they are big, they have more of a light yellow seam... COMMON NAMES SUCK!
they are both Glyptoperichthys sp.

glad you all liked these pics
I can't recall the site sorry it was found after typing black dragon catfish on google images and linking one of the pics..... my computer is slow old dial-up so takes ages to do anything :(
if you guys can get one for a good price I wouldn't hesitate .... but I'm in Oz so it won't be happening for me :(
I think it's typical to have a wide variation in colour for juv. when you account for
parents (sexual dimorphism) regional variation and water cond... and food
you could get lucky and spot one in a big batch at lfs someone here got a queen arabesque in with $15 sailfins...:WHOA: :D :D :D they're $600 here:swear: :screwy: :WHOA: :(

The first fish is L273 variant, very nice colours. Could be L25 but the tail is a bit different. The second pic has been discussed enough!!

Cool it pal, if you don't want to read all the posts then just say what you think and move on. As to L273, that is really difficult to tell due to it being so young, as well as small. Plecos can change pretty dramatically from youth to adult.

Sorry if I offended, just didnt want to add to everyone else's comments about the second fish. I was sure its a L273 as mine was the same shape/colours at that age, cant a newbie get a break around here?
he didnt mean no harm. chill.

Haha newbie. Obviously you are not a newbie. Didn't mean to come off harsh... its just hard to tell about that first one. Post up some pics of your plecs.
Like I should talk... I still haven't gotten that stupid camera over here to take pictures of my plecos.
