i called four days ago and asked for a certain species, the young lady was very pleasent, i gave her the scientific name and she got back on and said it didn't match the one on the tank...she said e-mail george and let him know..he got back to me today and said: quote: i gave 4-5 inchers saved"....this to me did not make sense so i called him today...hello is George there? what do you want with him, was the blunt reply, then whos calling? was next ....bla bla bla. george is around, but he's busy...can i call back, NO, he doesn't speak on the phone, i explained my plight, he says, e-mail him again, and then "come on"
...doesn't that sound like he has them ? i said no, it doesn't, he says george is to busy for this, he doesn't waste his time with these type of things. man his tone of voice was NASTY, AND LOUD, HE WAS BORDERLINE SCREAMING, to me that was all i could take, i then made my comment, and hung up...

I am not sure if George posted here a warning similar to what he posted on other sites where he tells everyone not to call him. Email is his way to communicate and I guess he really means it.
I had a similar experience like yours also because of a big miscommunication issues between George and me and some fishes I paid for. I called to try and fix it quickly because I do not check email at work and got the same problems you did over the phone. It bothered me greatly but I had to deal with it because he does warn people not to call.
In the end I didn't get my fishes because they died by the time George got back from an out-of-town trip.
So you are not alone and I guess we simply have to respect George's policy of email only when it comes to internet sales.

Agreed Ivan. George, if youre reading this ,please post a no phone call policy on your subforum to avoid calls . I dont think you have one here.

George has been very quick for me regarding answering emails...I never had to call :lol2: I guess in some instances, and certainly almost all instances, we just need to learn to wait :) which is NOT easy for everyone

Well i think Fishking has a point with the person that answered the phone. i dont think the problem was with George, its the person he talked to being rude. I have had a similar situation with a lfs and when they told me they dont have time for me, I said then I and many friends wont have time to be your customer. So I think these situations need to be worded differently. Like, "he is not able to speak on the phone, he is setup just for internet conversation, please forward all concerns to his email addres. Thank you". See, that sounds better doesnt it?

I have never dealt with them at all, but I would be pissed about a phone conversation such as that too.
No excuse for that.
Kindly explain the policy, and go on from there. Whoever answered the phone needs to lighten up.

Yep, I agree. Just because he made a mistake and didn't follow "policy" doesn't give anyone the right to be a dick to him. :swear:

I just saw this thread, and would like to offer a couple of observations.
1) After more than one complaint, and many other issues, the gentleman you are referring to is no longer working for me.
2) I have no excuse for his behavior, but I DO try and discourage phone calls for many reasons. First, I just can't spend all day on the phone, but more importantly, this policy is the only way to insure accurate communication. My people do not know what is coming in, when, and how much it will cost. THey have no idea what is sold, and what is not. They have no idea of shipping schedules, or other logistics, and believe me, they never will. So it all have to cross my desk (keyboard). IT's the only way to keep control of the logistics, and the accuracy of the information.
3) I liked the comment about " He emailed me as if nothing had happened." That's because I had no idea anything had happened.
I flip emails all day long. Whenever anyone calls, and says "I sent an email, and he never answered me", either there is no answer at hand, OR they never sent an email, and are trying an 'end around', which rarely works.
I also discourage PM's from the various boards,,, why, becasue I really don't have the time to visit as much as I would like, and I DO flip emails all day long.
I appreciate your understanding. It's the only way I can try and service this internet market.

Glad you checked in to clear things up George.
As you can see George has reasons why he doesn't take calls. Believe me I ahve been tempted to call G a few times but before I push the call button, I rememebr his policy. LOL
George has great communication through email. Very fast responses in most cases. Just don't type him a book.
Anyways, I hope you give Shark Aquarium another try. Everything I've ordered from G has arrived in tip top shape and great packing as well.
Just remember PHONE BAD! EMAIL GOOD! :D

Although I managed to pick some fish up in portugal, sent from a friend here on MFK, George is one of the only people that said he could send an international shipment to Spain for a reasonable rate. So I guess I recommend him ^_^

Oh you can ask,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, seriously, i take the camera out once a week or so.
It is not trivial to take pics, load, resize them, etc. When i do, i like to post them for others to also see.

Let me get this straight, don't call because you'll get treated like a piece of crap? I've got to think George doesn't want his phones at his business answered like this.

After reading this thread i agree that the person on the phone was very unprofessional. I also think that G has addressed the situation, the young man no longer has his job. I have supervised many people and you cant watch them all every minute of everyday. While you are ultimately responsible you have to be made aware of a problem before you can correct it. That has been done. WAY TO GO G!:headbang2

Just read this and had to chime in....
#1 I respect george as a great source for quality fish and service...I have ordered from him several times and have been More than pleased with the fish I have recieved from him and the shape they were in....TOPPS!!!
#2 his phone policy is his choice and his terms....you want what he has...do your best to follow his rules...granted that you know about them....be patient and wait for the emails...it does take time and your not the only email that he has recieved,I am sure this engulfs a good portion of his time.....If he had to deal with phones all day he would never get anything done....then you would cry your fish didnt make it when promised...LOL.
Dont be discouraged from your phone call to georges as if you do you will miss out on some great fish!!!
Keep up the good work george:thumbsup: and lemme know when you get some more cichla in;)

I have bought many fish ( actually more than my wife has any idea ) from Shark Aquarium. NEVER had one die right away! He has a great stock and fish are well kept. I can uderstand his phone rules, so don't spite yourself and miss out on great fish. Ofcourse he's not the only importer around, but he sure is a good one!
