I was thinking of buying one of these any info. would be helpful. Aggression? Are they gonna eat all my other cichlids? I've heard a few things about their beek type mouth.

They are pretty docile and are quickly stressed out.

Once they feel at home in the aquarium you should have some really nice fish.

You have 2 different strains of these Anagenys, the northern and the southern. The northern one gets more greyish/silver and grows larger. While the southern one is the more yellow one

Great fish, I love mine!!! They are very well behaved, they leave all the other fish alone and sometimes even my big male gets out of one of my peacocks way. Being a predator you need to have them with bigger fish, if you think they can fit a fish in their mouth they will probably try.

Wimmels is right, whenever I have had to move or transport them they lose all color and stay like that for a few weeks but once comfortable they can be beautiful! Wimmels, which variant do you think I have? Yellow?

Top 3 favorite fish for me.

Some days the male is mostly purple and his spots go away:

and sometimes he looks like this:

These fish are better kept in groups. My friend has a group 0f 3 males and 4 females and they are doing really fine

I just ordered one male, I was under the impression that more than one male would fight all the time. They are $30 a piece and getting one sounded a whole lot better LOL .How many males did your buddy have Wimmels?

As I said he kept and keeps a group of the Anagenys, I believe I even turned around the numbers in my previous post.

He keeps 4 males I believe, along with a few females. 1 male is completely dominant and in full colors. The largest is only coloring lightly and the rest look like females. And he has absoulutely no aggression in the group

Well my anagenys came in and man what a awesome looking fish. Can't wait to see him get his color. I know it will probably take a while but I'm sure well worth it. Mine must be from the southern parts because he is yellowish with black spots. He is already active in the tank, and fitting in. I hope it stays that way. LOL

Man I don't know but my Anagenys seems to be all over the place wanting to eat one of his peers. He shoots down like a torpedo trying eat one of my fish. He isn't going with the flow so far. LOL He keeps going after my Fossochromis Rastratus.

the North fish is yellow

the South fish is Silver

I have 2 yellow females I rescued for my friend - a male tyrannochromis killed an 8" male and a 6" female. They are doing pretty well so far!

I have 3 adult males in the same tank without any signs of aggresion at all, they are all very calm, they are not hard on the females either.
great fish, just dont throw them in with some of the "bad boys"..
