Hi, Peaches here...

I am asking for a friend about their goldfish...I know it isn't a monster fish but still it is their pet and he is very worried about him. :(

It seems the goldfish has developed some sort of yellowish lump on his back...My friend doesn't think it's a tumor because he looked at pictures of tumors and it doesn't fit. I have been thinking it might be a cyst but I can't find anything about cysts on goldfish....I don't know much about tumors but one of my beloved bettas once grew a tumor years ago and there was no stopping it. The poor thing died despite my help...which was probably worthless anyway.

But back to the goldfish, Steevie says the lump has grown a bit visibly in a week or so....

Please guys, any advice anybody can give would be greatly appreciated! Thanks...
:(

how old's the goldfish? i think cancerous tumors are the primary cause of death in old fish everywhere.. at the very least, I hear about them killing old fish a LOT. I haven't heard from anyone who's ever successfully treated a tumorous fish.

~I'm really sorry guys but I don't know the age nor have any pics. I know that would help a lot but I'm sorry I don't have a clue on the age but I could ask him as soon as I can....

Yeah, my betta that grew a tumor had it forever and it grew and grew and I felt so terrible...I knew he was suffering, and I finally did have to put him out of his misery unfortunately. I wish so badly fish veterinarians were as common as dog vets!

I emailed him back with whatever information I could find while searching the internet and I did run across a picture of somebody's goldfish that had a lump on his back sort of like a pimple but it was suppose to be bacterial in nature...So do any of you guys think it could simply be some sort of bacterial infection? They said the treatment for that would be anti-bacterial food and I think a medication that you apply directly on the spot. I know this may not be it but I was trying to find other possibilities besides it being a ly tumor...I giving out bad news! :(

~Sorry if I am pestering everybody a lot!
But thanks!!! :p

Hey guys... nice to talk with you all again!

-To beblondie-
I did a google search on nodule but it didn't have anything to do with fish... umm...thanks anyway...

-To Buddah-
That's a good possibility....But I think it's symptoms would be more severe....The goldfish might have already been if he did break his back.

Thanks for your time and everything anyway!! This sure seems a mystery...I still haven't got a email reply from Steevie so I can't get anymore info from him but I will as soon as I can!!

Hope you guys can help me figure this out!!

Sorry if I am bugging everybody too much.....

UPDATE-TODAY

-Beblondie-
THANKS SO MUCH for your suggestion! I looked up nodular disease the 'right way' now and I am very sure that could be what Steevie's goldfish has. I have never heard of that disease before until now! You're so smart Blondie! Thank you very much. You're the greatest, I am pretty sure that what the goldfish has, too bad there isn't a cure though :( I'll tell Steevie about it as soon as I can...Probably right now, so........

Well I'll talk to ya guys later,
Peaches~ ;)

Since it is a goldfish, it could very well be fish pox, it happens to goldfish mostly. Try a broad spectrum antibiotic. It may help if it is bacterial. If it is viral, there isn't much you can do. It will either go away eventually or it wont. You didn't mention if the fish was still eating or not.

Thank you Missy for your suggestion, Steevie's goldfish has healed and the bump had gone completely flat after giving him/her some antibiotic food.

Thanks again everybody!
