This is the (all tackle) record for alligator gar, lepisosteus spatula, 279lbs cought 12-2-1951 Rio Grande Texas by Mr. bill Vallerde. In the Spring of 2005 a 327 pound 8'10'' alligator gar was bowfished in Broken Bow Lake Oklahoma.---HappyFish

Yup, Your dead on. I just joined again and wanted to look at some photos another member had put up. Every time I tried to view the pix I would get kicked out with a line about how I could not do that untill I had like five post. Stupid rule, so instead of posting one, two, etc. etc. I put up something a bit usefull. Now its Spring, I want to move my 3 Fla gar from my aquarium to my pet pond and put some alligator gar in their place if I could only find some. When I learn this posting thing a bit more I would like to put up some shots and under water video of my ponds. I have gar over five feet and largemouth bass to about 15 pounds. There are lots of other cool fish in that pond. I also have trout from about one pound to about 14 pounds in 3 other lakes. Sorry about all the post but I tend to move around stupid road blocks rather quickly.--HappyFish

The largest gar ever was about 350pounds but I don`t think that it was cought on hook and line. This past Spring some guy shot a 327 lb gar in Broken Bow Lake Okl. photos of that can be found on the web and their damn impressive.--HappyFish
