I don't keep any anymore, but i had a Koi that I really enjoyed. I don't mind goldfish, but they get old after a while.

I hope you can keep your fish dude, I think you are one of the most valuable monster keepers here! I am skilled in negotiations as I am a pikey, and would happily negotiate for you. Does your Dad like dags?

My goldfish are monsters. You should see them kill a shrimp. They also just killed a fish that I just put in my tank on Sunday that was nearly twice as big as them. They always seem to hang out together and they have one big one that's like their leader. He'll sit in the middle of the tank and just keep an eye on everything. I'm not saying all goldfish are cool but I enjoy mine quite a bit!

Some goldfish are cool, I wouldn't lump them into a group as boring. I loved mine while I had them. When I got them, the bastard at walmart told me a koi would be fine in a ten, and eventually it wasn't, so I had to get rid of them. They got traded to a very respectable lfs, and they were gone within a week.
I think goldies are awesome, they constantly swim, don't kill everything in sight, and root through the substrate on a pretty regular basis. Big ones will kill small shrimp as fast as any Dat I've ever seen, and they have nice color. I came very close to making my 75 a goldfish tank, but it didn't happen.

They Suck
Why do they suck? Do you have any reason or a bad expierience?
I just don't like all those colored and ruined goldfishes.. And of course those who color them and try to sell them:swear: I hope someday nobody will buy them.

Me, personally, I find Gold-Fish as an "Display" item to be very interesting and hard to maintain as in perfect water quality and movement. There is a place for them in this ever growing hobby. :grinyes:

I have never seen a dyed goldfish. All the colors are a natural result of selective breeding.

I doubt it was dyed, they come in a wide range of shades and that one is not uncommon, the website may have stretched the truth a bit to make a point

I had a goldfish once...I won him at a carnival when I was 7, and he lived for 11 years. For a time, he was my only friend. This fish lived in his seldom-cleaned solitary bowl for half my life...once he sucked up a piece of gravel, and I had to operate on him with tweezers. Goldfish are the unsung heroes of the fish world...they're like immigrant workers...you don't know how much you need them until they are gone. As for my goldfish, after 11 years of solitude, I finally decided to buy him a companion, who promptly killed him. Then two weeks later, he died himself, and I was all alone again.

i think goldfish are harder to maintain water quality wise
i mean cmon
thses guys produce more waster that the monster fish we keep
and you could say metaphorically that they consume more o2 than a jet engine:WHOA:
so they need tons of filteration and aeration to keep em going:headbang2

Really? These are the 1st fish I've kept. So I guess the monsters won't be so hard when I finally get some.... Well other than feeding them.
I'm looking to find a way to have sabor teeth surgically attached to my goldfish so that they too can be giant killing machines.

I once had a goldfish that suvived being a feeder for my turtle. It got nice and big befor it died.
I have four Comets and two Shubunkins in a 65g and they give me great pleasure. How many of us started with Goldies?
YoYoYo,
The statement you made makes me wonder who the STUPID one is?

gfs mom had too many fish die years ago so she just bought 7 feeders. 5 years later i got 5 of them still kickin in a 29g. they're in kinda rough shape but still enjoyable.
i'll build a pond next year for them if they are still alive. then i'll throw a giant channa in there.
When I was in China all I remember is a really cool looking pair of yellow Koi that was like 20 years old not even prolific selling for 7k USD. Oh and fish skin tastes like potato chips.

 That is one of the funniest things I've read in a while.
Goldfish are great fish and still one of my favorites, they are really dirty but just put the extra effort into them that you put into all the other fish you keep and they will be cool too, There are so many different types, maybe because they don't kill or are only seen as crappy "bowl-fish" feeders they get a really bad rap?

Thay can make good feeders.
They make lousy feeders as a steady diet, they cause a thiamine defficiency.
