Hello.

I recently bouth a 100 gal tank to set up and it had two goldfish in it I added two salmon and a strugeon to keep the tank going until i find the fish that i really want.

has anybody had any experience keeping these fish ?

They are actually pretty cool looking although the sturgeon is not all that active, the salmon definitly make up for it.

Yeah dude, you can't keep a pair of salmon in a 100, and with a sturgeon probably not in a 1000.

well you could keep it in a thousand gallons im sure.. the foot prints you just have to be real wide and long and not high;)

maybe you should get a small chiller, sturgeon and salmon will live longer and thrive better in cooler waters than you can provide

Yes I know they are still quite small i'll get rid of them when they get too big.

I realize how big both get ;)

well....i still think 100 gals is a little tight for 2 salmon and a sturgeon......what salmon are they anyway?

The tank is in my basement and the temperature never gets above 18 c.

they will do fine at that temp i believe.

How do I post pictures on this site ?

Atlantic Salmon

Yes I agree.

We have an abundance of salmon here and the goldfish were quite boring so i drove up the road to a hatchery and gor five originally but three jumped out .

There is a sturgeon hatchery near here also so i went out and got one of those.

we picked through the fish to find a small one and they grow quite slow.
although the salmon are quick growers but i realized that before as i have raised a few salmon in my lifetime.

Somewhere in the vicinity of 4 million i would say without any exageration.

Sorry to rag on you being that you are new, welcome! When you do "get rid of them" just be sure not to release them. Give them to a public aquarium or euthanize them.

yes thats what I had in mind.

even though they are native here.

The sturgeon however may go to the local aquarium the fish grower said he doesn't want it back.

By the way i traded the fish for a bottle of wine .

Now that is a cool tank! I like! I have always wanted a sturgeon. You should throw in some sminnows and see what kind of monsters the salmon really are! Once they get too big why not eat the salmon? I am being serious too!

Yes they hit like like a flash of light, I fed them a couple of small africans before.

LoL good point.

Kind of off topic but I have been thinking about this. Are the dorado of south america actually a salmon? Their latin name is Salmus Maximus (that sounds funny) or somthing like that if I recall.

noreaster

That paticular sturgeon is a shortnose sturgeon they get no longer than three feet.

Although i'm sad to say mine died last week so he never got any bigger than a foot and a half.

I've seen some pretty big atlantic salmon but never seen one near five feet.

ot argueing that they can't get that big maby but?

A five foot salmon would be a record I believe.

I went to the seattle aquarium a while ago and was intrigued by the 5 footer they had swimming around.

Very cool fish. and FUN to fish as well!!!!!
