what are you feeding it? Goodluck! A round tank is best so it doesn't smash its nose!

What else are you feeding it? Warm water and feeders alone aren't going to cut it long term. Polyodon Spathula is a cold water fish thats a filter feeder primarily not a piscavore. Thats not to say its impossible to keep especially if you can build a deep shaded pond that will stay below 20*C. You obviously have the money to house one or else you couldnt afford an AUL. There is food out there for Paddlefish that you can load into a feeder suspended over the pond to feed it a few times a day. If cared for properly it will be around for a looong time. Max lifespan is 50+ years. Beautiful fish though so good luck and please keep us updated.

exactly what i was going to say. i've heard of some public aquariums not being able to feed them because of them being filter feeders.

nice group of fish you got in that tank, I also see the paddle fish trying to filter feed you should get some kind of food for it to filter feed on.

Paddlefish are a lot more of a piscavore than many people give them credit for. As long as the fish are tiny it shouldn't have a problem eating them. It does prefer cooler water, I would try to keep it in the low 70's at most. Lot's of aeration. and a very big tank. If you want to feed him pellets try a feeder ring with hikari micro pellets. The ring will allow the pellets to fall slowly in one area and the fish should learn quickly to feed on them as they fall. The pellets are tiny so they fall in a shower. Keep us up todate on it's progress, I suggest you keep a daily diary about it's up keep so the rest of us can learn from it.

I've had many conversations with researchers about paddlefish and it seems their need for "plankton" is somewhat exaggerated. Tiny fish and crustaceans are taken as well as small fishes. To say they must subsist on microscopic plankton is not really true. most of the river systems they live in do not support much in the way of what most people think of when we say plankton. The Chinese version of the paddle fish is a dedicated piscavore and our paddlefish eats lots of small fishes as well.
wow were do get something like that
