Well, I finally got around to added 3 bags of Tahitian Moon sand to the tank today, and it looks awesome! Anyway, I took some photos, and wanted to show off my pike. He's growing very well, and is the fattest fish in the tank (he will literally eat ANYTHING!).

Beautiful fish- love the contrast against the black sand - might try that in my next tank

I'd say about 8 inches. Maybe 8.5 inches. The gar is almost 12" exactly, so that's what I base my measurements of the other fish off of.

By the way, does anyone know how to sex a Venezuelan pike? Just wondering...

Female Venny. Mine is female and is exactly like yours. probaly the same size too. the stomache is a tad bit red but should get even more red when it gets bigger. Males dont have this.

I normally hate black substrate but I think it suits the tank perfectly. Nice job.

Thanks! I didn't know that about sexing them.

Thanks! I really like the black sand vs the white/light tan play sand in my community 125g. It just looks cleaner to me. Plus it really brings out the darker colors in the fish...
