I had one years ago....."Harvey" who was pretty much the house pet. I havent laid my eyes on one in years. My name is Aztec Fred and I am new here. I await your info.

how large did he get? what size tank and what tankmates? was he aggressive toward tankmates he couldn't eat?

Thanks for asking. He got 24 inches in length, was failry shy and reclusive but would tend to try and EAT tankmates of an appropriate size(Read 1/2 his length or a little more) He spent most of his time sitting on the bottem of the 80 gallon plex tank he was raised in. He was an awesome fish in my humble opinion.

what size did you get him at, and how long did you have him for? what fate eventually befell him?
bowfin interest me greatly, I'd like to keep one eventually, when I have the tankspace...

Lets see..I got him when he was a wee little bugger of 4 inches......Moved him from aquarium to aquarium as he grew ever larger. He got to big for his 80 gallon and I gave him to a friend that was moving out of state and had a 110 and a pond in his NEW backyard. LOST contaft with the friend. In all I had him....3 years+. He grew like a weed ana da te like a pig.

does anyone have any pictures of bowfin? I know when I was much younger we used to go fishing at this private pond and this guy had stocked them, at that time, i had NO IDEAS what the hell it was, until it bit a hole thru my net, but i remember the damned things geting HUGE, somewhere around the neighborhood of 3 feet.... :feedback:

The site jonahsaquarium.com says they can seasonaly get them but it requires preorder and they did not list a price.
