View Full Version : CFL FOR CORALS?

I saw some compact fluorescents at Lowes rated 6500k, CRI 82 and 1100 lumens. Could this type of bulb be used on a reef tank? If so would I need to have them a certain distance from the waters surface? As this would be my first salt water tank any response is apprecianted.:)

6500K would generate ALOT of algae and not much for corals.. aim for a number around 10-16000K if they have them
