Hey guys. Just wanted to post up some updated pics of my newer tank setup (new deco), and some more pics of my SMB. I have the one SMB (6 inches), one Pleco (4 inches), one crawfish (2.5 inches). They all get along really well, and the crawfish can go around the whole tank without being bothered. I guess that has to do with keeping the bass fed.
Anyway, here are a few pics. Let me know what you think, and you can check out my entire album here on Flickr.com (http://www.flickr.com/photos/53711830@N00/sets/72157614763364281/)

I'm pretty sure you shouldn't feel comfortable with a smallmouth bass in a 55 gallon...

Crayfish will be lunch regardless if you keep the bass fed or not.

The SMB will eventually eat the crayfish lol. Pleco might end up on the menu when he gets bigger.

He's a good looking one and to be redundant its only a matter of time for that crayfish lol

I think the point JDC_25 is trying to make is that the SMB will eventually outgrow the 55 or become stunted from not being moved when it does outgrow the 55; not really a negative point, just a concern for the health of the fish.

Thank you for the compliment Basco! I know that eventually the smallie will try to take out the crawfish, but its interesting when you see the bass swim by and glance at the craw but not really pay any attention to it. He has shed twice, and I know soft shells really attract the bass, but so far he is doing good.

Ya, the bass will be fine for now; it looks great and healthy, so it should be fine for a while. Smallies are fun fish with tons of personality, so definitely consider upgrading when he gets too big for the 55; I hate having to release the smallies I get every year from my pond back into my pond since they are so much fun to watch.

I caught one out of lake erie that was 23'' thats twice the width of a 55.:nilly: maybe thats why, your a monster fish haver. lol
It makes a nice reason to get a bigger tank.:naughty: By the way love the deer AV you have!

They can easily get that big in Lake Erie, but were I pulled him from (the Shenandoah River) they average much smaller than that, really about 12-15 inches. I know the aquarium is a bit different than the river ecosystem, so his growth rate will probably be much faster. Yeah that is too big for my 55, but like you said that is an excuse to go bigger, ;)
:grinno: MODs must be sleeping. Nothing against keeping natives in a 55 here unless its a SM in a 55. With as new as you are to the site thats not the best attitude to start off with unless you want people to flame you regardless of being right or wrong.

We always have a choice on how we decide to react to things. I wouldn't waste time getting upset about a comment on a forum.
Really neat fish by the way. Thanks for sharing!
LOL Maybe its because a 55 is not the best tank for a SMB. If its a worthless forum then go to one you think isn't and stay there till you can grow up and stop name calling like a child.

Couldn't agree with you more... The dude is obviously a teenager and has no regard for the size of larger fish species.

another thing that you should take into hand frey, is that smallmouths need cold water and they won't do too well in tropical temperatures. before you take a fish out of its natural environment as an impulse, research it first and learn what you need to make the fish feel at home.
instead of being a child and insulting people, learn from what they are telling you. after all, they are clearly more experienced and knowledgeble on the subject if you have a smallmouth bass in with a crayfish and in tropical temperatures

The 'attitude' is becuase every single post on this board refering to keeping bass in a 55 gets flames and posts complaining. If you dont like it dont freakin post.
All of you douches that have a holyer than thou attitude need to grow the hell up, and realize that your balls are only bigger because your on the net.
Worthless Forum.
Maybe the "attitude" that was directed toward your post was due to the fact that, from what I've seen, people on this site like to take good care of the fish they keep and don't want to keep them in inappropriately sized tanks. As a female, I don't have a set of the items to which you are referring, but I wouldn't tell anyone on this site anything I wouldn't tell them to their face. Furthermore, if you feel as though this forum is worthless, why did you post here in the first place? Perhaps your opinion was changed when you didn't get the answer you were looking for. As a new member to this forum myself, I personally don't find it worthless and have a great respect for the members here. If you can't respect other people and feel the need to call those who responded to your post ridiculous names, the site is probably better off without you.

granted 2 week vacation to allow time to read the TOS on posting etiquette. I'm glad that all other posters remained civil to the onslaught of insults.
