Discus are cichlids and they will take an easy meal if they can. Don't feel bad. At least you know your fish is well fed.

try livebearers, they're bigger and won't be eaten, when they have fry (which is often) your discus will get some live treats

They barely fit in his mouth! Its kind of cute watching him chase them down!!! I have been throwing white clouds in lately and he chases them with the same gusto:)

this is nature of discus,
it's carnivorus,
the bigger fish eat the smaller fish.

I keep quite a few discus with Cardinals and none ever ate any. However, your discus looks mean like a convicted serial killer and should be treated as such.
Some of my discus manage to eat beefheart streeps up to 1/2" long but a grown Cardinal is unthinkable. Did you show him any movies with some serious deepthroat action?

My cardinals started out as a school of 18 and has been reduced to 3 currently. I have yet to actually see any of my discus eat any but they are devouring them! What I find funny is that my discus are *very* well feed and I have no idea how these things are fitting in their mouth.
