nice collection. you gotta had any territorial problems with the scarlet yet? ...or the others

the big fellas are mostly quite territorial..but given the number of big plecos and the deco..they have actually achieved a balance among themselves..if anyone intrude on another's territory, there will be some fights/jostling..but nuttin dat serious..in fact to me, dat shows they are healthy and have some fight in them!
alot of the aggression about plecos are highly overhyped, and the worst aggression actually happen in cases where one fish was overly dominant over the others, resulting in stress and even casualty in the long term. if u know how to achieve the balance, then it can be done.

i dont think that its overhyped that much. all plecos are territorial, yes, but so are a lot of fish. there are a lot of plecos that really do not get on with others, and some that just hate their own sp. (gn for common example). a big tank, and lots of hiding spots though, then you can usually sort out small problems. even so, i know that some plecos (bristlenose experience) actively hunt the weaker males and kill them

Every pleco is different. I had a 3.5" bristlenose kill a 8" chocolate pleco, and they were together for only 2 weeks before he was found dead. The chocolate had gouges cut into him obviously by odontodes, and had lived in the tank for nearly 4 months before hand.

my mates GN took on a pleco 3 times its size so... all depends

Absolutely beautiful Megalancistus sp.. It's a shame these fish always come into the country so large and expensive. New undescribed spp. pop up all the time - do you know where yours came from?

Gorgeous tank and a breathtaking collection of plecs. You've made my day!

love the whole setup. how big? is it overcrowded???

WyldFya

Was it a male??? That is pretty ballsy, that would be like one of us taking on a tiger!:WHOA:

i'm not sure to be honest, i was just discussing it with him, i saw "mate" in a lose term, hes just long term staff at an lfs that i have gotten to know. i think it was with a placid pleco, maybe a Hypostomus punctatus. i think it was a limited incident

WyldFya
05-04-2006, 7:15 PM
Still pretty impressive for a pleco to go after another so big, even if it was a docile species.

davo
05-04-2006, 7:23 PM
the GN was a nasty bugger im told though. he didnt keep any bottom dwelling fish with it at all. just a psycho.

WyldFya
05-04-2006, 7:27 PM
My bristlenose was like that he killed a talking cat, striped raphael cat, banjo cat, pictus cat, chocolate plec, bumblebee cat. The list would have gone on but I traded him in!

lol, you must have really liked it too keep it that long. or it took you a while to find the culprit or was mass genocide

DAMMMMN NICE TANK, the driftwood gives the nice tanish color the fish like, love that re/black pleco.

davo
05-04-2006, 7:46 PM
yea it is a nice L025, has some beautiful vibrant colours on it

WyldFya

lol, you must have really liked it too keep it that long. or it took you a while to find the culprit or was mass genocide

it was a little of both. The banjo went first, didn't know who killed him at first, didn't know where he was either. Next was the chocolate, he was pretty obvious, and the rest was just a mass murder scene!

davo
05-04-2006, 8:02 PM
i would have been pissed from the banjo

WyldFya
05-04-2006, 8:08 PM
I was, he was an active banjo too. He would come out of hiding when the lights came on, or when you went to feed.

davo
05-04-2006, 8:16 PM
which kind of banjo we are talking about, there are a few i think going on that name

WyldFya
05-04-2006, 8:20 PM
Dysichthys coracoideus

davo
05-04-2006, 8:26 PM
o good thinking of the same one. yea but lots of people i know think they are ugly, i really like them

WyldFya
05-04-2006, 9:03 PM
They are really fun fish to keep, and are very interesting to watch.

davo
05-04-2006, 9:07 PM
they sparked my interest into whiptails

WyldFya
05-04-2006, 9:20 PM
my banjo was kept together with my whiptail, and that just got to be all kinds of confusing.

davo
05-04-2006, 9:21 PM
lol. i had a banjo with a pattern on it, cant remember the name

WyldFya
05-04-2006, 9:22 PM
I want to get few more of them, but they are very hard to come by around here.

davo
05-04-2006, 9:24 PM
i think its funny some of the exotic plecos you can get, and then you cant get a banjo

WyldFya
05-04-2006, 9:27 PM
I see them every once and a while, but they just aren't popular around here. We can get some really kick@$$ plecs, but not banjos, kinda sucks.

davo
05-04-2006, 9:29 PM
thats one i had, a bit different

no worries its the mottled tailed banjo for a common name

WyldFya
05-04-2006, 9:57 PM
I've heard of those... I can't find one of the normal ones though, so it might be quite a while before I lay my hands on one of those.

davo
05-04-2006, 9:59 PM
these mottles are more common at my lfs than the "normal" ones

WyldFya
05-04-2006, 10:01 PM
I see probably one batch of these a year through these parts.
