I just purchased this puffer. The lfs calls it a snowflake fugu puffer. It has two plack spots and lots of white spots. The body is quite long like a fahaka. The tail has a darkish yellow/orange color. Please help me id my puffer.

There are puffers that are not in the fugu group, those are usually genus Takifugu.
I would guess that the one above is a mainly marine fish, the 6" Takifugu niphobles but I don't know squat about puffers.

:headbang2 Sweet!
Looks like Takifugu niphobles. It's probably the second most commonly imported species of "fugu" puffer seen in the states, next to T. ocellatus. Here's the fishbase info on this brackish to marine species that is unfortunately often kept in FW:

Yep thats him I guess. Thanks for the info guys. And here I was freaking out thinking that I might have put too much salt in the water. He's really active and seems to like crayfish and mealworms.

Snowflake or milk spot is the common name for C.Patoca, it looks like one to me.;)

Could be, I don't know my puffers, but it looks like the milk spot has bigger white spots, smaller eyes, a broader, straighter black band, and a yellow belly.

it's not c. patoca. shape is wrong. This puffer is more elongate and the dark marking behind the gills is in a different position.
I would recommend the aqualog book if you want a correct book about puffers. Well worth the money!

I went to a LFS today and they had a huge bunch of these. They had the same name but these were about 6-7" and were $40. I was tempted to buy more. I cannot stress just how striking these puffers are.
