i bought 2 4-5" ATs about 3 months ago. trained them to eat market shrimp. after 1 month they were already eating and transferred the to a 100 gal tank with a 5" oscar, 7" senegal and three 5" silver dollars. no problems whatsoever. ATs would come up during feeding time and snatch food away from the oscar.
1. 2 weeks ago did some plumbing on the tank using pvc and pvc cement dried it for 24H
2. also gave 2 feeder fish each from my own tank.
i noticed that after 2 days with the new powerhead, they started hiding and went black, so i removed it. ATs wont come to the glass but they still pick up food from the bottom once their snouts touch it. water params normal, Temp 28C water change 50% weekly. ATs are still eating, stilll blind, no sores, no cloudy eyes, nothing. what could have caused the blindness? need help guys thanks.

How do you know that it is vision loss?

before it started, they would usually snatch food immediatley after hitting the water. now when i drop food they respond only to the movements of the other fishes and scour the bottom and eat only the MP once their snout touches it. otherwise they wouldnt bite even if it was right in front of their faces. and they keep bumping into airstones i recently placed.

Take a picture of the eyes and we'll let you know if it's blind or not

tried giving feeders, no luck. they just pass over MPs unless it hits their snout. if a MP is too big they spit it out and look for it again. they were ok a few weeks ago.
help guys.

Can you take more in tank shots? They don't look blind to me...

yup ill be taking more tank shots and some videos. the eyes really look ok. no cloudy eyes no popeye. but the behavior changed. from snatching food immediately and going to the glass to always hiding and bumping into stuff.and the feeding behavior bothers me they keep missing the food, not running after feeders.

could they possibly be unstable from your tank changes? airstones, powerheads & pvc sound like major disruptions to dat behavior.

the other dat had never been stable from the start, the other one mostly stable. after i noticed the change, i removed the plumbing and powerhead.

even if they were previously running up to the glass once i try to feed them?
and they were previously aggressive to the other fishes in the tank. thanks for the inputs. new at these dats.:)

IMO, behavior seems typical. from my experience they go through mood changes and don't like changes in environment or bright lights. I would try to get the tank set up the way you want, with hiding spaces available, and then leave it alone.

What other fish are in the tank? Do you have a picture of the tank?

sounds like ur tiger is stress..in my experience try doin a water change..dats are sensitive to changes in water parameters and need clean fresh water..i notice my dats are more stable when i do a 25% water change every 2days..and remember to keep the light on it really helps..in time it should get bek to stable..hope it helps! :)
