Out of curiosity, is it common or a must to do any water changes on a 3800 gallon pond? I have a Tetra 3 filter, waterfall and UV sterilizer. 5 Fish anywhere from 5-8" and some plants.... How often if so??

Is this an indoor or outdoor pond? With that size bio-load, I'd say forgo the water changes. If it's an outdoor pond, place a bunch of potted marsh plants around the edges of the pond and you shouldn't ever need to perform water changes. If the pond is indoors with very few plants, then a water change every 3 to 4 months may be needed just to keep the stale pond odors down and envigorate your fish. If you're planning on breeding any of the fish in the pond, a water change will usually spark some spawning action.

Outdoor pond old and established, with a ton of algae growth on the bottom, I figured that might eat up any nitrate....

I wouldn't sweat it. Should be alright without water changes. What kind of fish are in there?
