Hey there.
Im sort of new here, but i have two Peacock Eels, about 6-7inches in length each.
Anyone else keeping these 'eels' or another type of spiny eel, like the tyretrack or fire eel?
Just thought i'd ask.

I have a mastacembelus mastacembelus, cool eel. Just a baby, around 5 inches, becoming a little less shy now.

What do you feed yours? Mine only eats bloodworms atm.

I have had 3 fire eels, and one I got trained to eat from a rigid tubing. He would swim up and eat bloodworms at the waters surface, but only if the worms were in the tube. My largest one hit 14", and about 1.25" in diameter. Fun to keep.

even at large sizes, 12 inches plus do they really only eat worms? They never take chopped up mussels/prawns etc?

One of mine is pretty active at about 6pm onwards, the other is only active after about 10pm.
Heres a picture of one of mine, poking his head out the gravel. You can also see my baby Gibbiceps Pleco on the log next to him:

I have a 16" tire track eel, maybe 2 yrs old.wait until hey hit the 8-10" mark and start feeding frozen krill.Mine has grown an inch a month since he could finally get the krill into his mouth. It makes things easy . Krill is the staple food of that tank because of my 14" silver arowana,my7" bichirand my snowflake eel.The tire track eel has actually passed my arowana as the largest fish in the tank.

I have about a 5-6 inch Zig Zag, 9-10 inch Tire-Track, and a 11-12 Fire eel. The zig zag is the only one that eats brineshrimp frozen and a lil frozen bloodworms. The tire track used to eat a lil bloodworms when it was new but now the fire and tire track only eat live Earthworms and Ghost shrimp.

I currently just obtained 2 awesome tire tracks for my 280 gallon tank and 2 senegal bichirs the eels are roughly over 8 inches long the bichirs are 7 inches long roughly they all make glutts of themselves on earthworms and krill I just wish they would come out more though....the eels that is but when they do its an awesome sight im still looking for a fire eel but Im not sure if all three could live peacefully together

I´ve had mastacembelus eels now for a few years. I use a little floating basket to feed them. this way they come all the way up to the surface and become less shy. It´s also quit easy to make m eat from your hand. Just make m hungry and try earthworms. Fire eels are more relaxed towards tankmates than armatus. my 22 inch armatus almost killed my 12 inch fire eel in one night! Armatus eels become more agressive as they grow bigger. If you don´t give them a pipe to hide in they´ll be more visible. my eels show themselves all day long and not only at night. i think fish is the best food for them and makes m grow the fastest.
