I'm Where I'm At
just got my second FX5, my question is, do you guys put the 2 in takes on one side of the tank and the two outs on the other side? or alternate them?

i got a 6 foot 180gallon,............

thanks in advance!

Personally I would do the intakes on opposite sides of the tanks (same with returns) so that both sides are covered. I'd probably only do all intakes on one side if I had a powerhead pushing all the dirt/waste/debri towards that side.

It's probably not going to make any difference

you only need one for your tank. you can send the other this way. jk. i like volcoms idea if you dont want to custom plumb it.

I don't run Fx5 but your questions more general than FX5 specific. I do run two canisters though and have thought about this. Both of Volcome idea would work. Currently, I have it setup one intake on each side. Reason for that is that my hose were not long enough so I didn't want to bother too much. If you do both intake one side make sure you have a strong powerhead on the other side to push the water. Advantage of having two intake one side is that you can put the heater next to the intake and let the filter distribute the heated water for you.

Two 600 gph filters on a one eighty and you guys are suggesting adding powerheads

That 600gph will decrease as the filter age and media clog. The more filtration his tank has the longer he can go without a waterchange if emergency arise.

More filtration will means you can go longer without water changes:eek: Oh please explain how you feel this is possible?
