ppl say there are different breeds but to me they all the same some just got uglie colors and the ones with better colors demand higer prices...ive bought $100+ specimens and the $5 specimens and ended up likeing the $5 ones better so its really a matter of your own opinion if u get ripped off or not. gl

I hear ya but there has to be certain types that are the cornerstone of FH's like a umbee is to new world cichlids. I know it's some people here that know alot about flowerhorns

I'd go with Julie from Flowerhornsfrombeyond.com. The KGMxZZ are some really nice fish for the price.

There is no one strain that is really automatically worth more than another. It's all based on traits of the individual fish. A crap KK is worth less than a nice ZZ.

Look to buy what strain you like. Then look for fish that have good traits in that strain.

i was thinking the samething when i first kept flowerhorns, so i could sell for more $ when they grow up. Red dragons are the most common flowerhorns, i think king kamfa is the best looking FH among them. SRT you may purchase from aquascapeonline.com or fish room, but aquascape is cheaper. The pic looks nice but i have never seen their srt in person.

The Kamfa strain is always desirable weather it be your kamfa or the King Kamfa or King Damo Kamfa. For me I always go by the traits in the fish not too much in the strain because it can be misleading to buy a fish and thinking your gonna get something your not. Also a 2 inch fry is pretty much a gamble your better off getting a fish around 4-5 inches its closer to its mature colors. Prices can vary a MP can cost $800+ or as low as $200.

MY favourite traits are:

Fins- Wrap Tail, lots of pearling
Pearls- thick and across the head
flowers-dont really care much
head- Decent size not monster but proportionate to body.
Color- 2 tone red and yellow

Considering my likes id guess id go for a Kamfamalau which is a cross between kamfa and Kamalau

Maybe you could post your likes and a picture of a fish you like and maybe I could suggest a breed and price range.

You could PM me for any more questions.

Thanks

forget the names and buy what you like. Some fh can be wrongly name to get more money.
If you are new at keeping fh, do not buy a kamfah because they need more patience and care to briing out their best attribute.

If you are from philly, captain nemo in east norritown has some nice short body fh under $20 with good quality.
