Are you picking them up from shipping or from a lfs. The best way is to leave them in the bags you get them in. Do not open the bags at all, just check for them to be alive and close the box. If the shipper or lfs knows what they are doing then the rays can live 24-36 hours in the bags as long as they don't get to cold. Only mess with the rays if the bag is busted. In that case you need to find some distilled water and hope for the best until you get them home.

Large tub with sufficient space for air to diffuse should do fine. Keep them warm if it is cool where you are now.

i have driven with rays in rubbermaid tubs for about 3 1/2 hours before. lots of water in the tubs, didn't use airstones, still have all the rays.

that is perfect. put a few towels under it because water will slosh around.

A tub would work, but me personally, I would bag them with half water and half air. Seal it up with zip ties or rubber bands and role out. Then you can get by with 4 gallons of water instead of 80 gallons.

is there a difference then putting 15 or 20 gal in a 50 gal tub then bagging them?
i just think it would be really easy to pick up a tub and be done with it ..

both my rays i have bought interstate, about 3 hours drive.
i have just bagged them with sufficient oxygen.
3-4 hours drive is fine dude. Think of the wild rays... how long they spend in transit.

yea i guess i just feel like it would be better to have them in a tub with a air stone .. but dont know if it really matters at all .. figured i would ask which would be best .. both are equally as easy
I would add some prime to the water just in case :)

Yes adding some prime to the water that they are already acclimated to. I have done 2 hours in a rubbermaid tubs with 1/4 filled with water. I think either way tub or bag you should be fine. Good luck !!!!!!

thank you thank you .. talked to vamptrev just a few min ago and he said he has plenty of water to toss in the tub and they should be just fine with the air stone ... and he is going to give me the low down on the care side of things .. so i should be all set .. all i have on the 150 right now is the rena 3 but have a Fx5 that needs some media and will be ready for the tank in a few weeks..
If u transport by bags, won't that increase the liklihood of ammonia burn? Cause there is less water to dilute, than say a rubermaid tub can hold....
Or is the difference minimal it doesn't matter?

In my humble opinion air stone is good, rubbermaid is good. Instead of adding prime or anything for that matter, consider bringing 2-5 gallons of extra water and do a 50% water change of the rubbermaid contents halfway throught the transport. Use a smaller container to scoop out the "old" water and just dump in the fresh. This works well for me, pups, adults, pregnant females......no losses.
Don't fret to much, rays are quite hardy creatures and vamptrev has some very nice rays.

when I received mine from a lfs, I told them i have 3 hour drive they put some blue "pill" in with the bag. I wish i knew the name of it because it made my ray do just fine, with minimal stress for the transport.
