I am having bad luck with my tanks as of late (invert deaths, now this.)

I had my PB discus for a year, it was 4 inches and was the "main attraction" of my planted hex.

Anyways, it was free because it was sick when I got it. It got better in my tank with lots of water changes, varied food, and a temp of 82 (was being kept in 76 water at LFS!) I didn't see this coming, it was fine yesterday, today dark and dead. Everything else in the tank is fine (inverts included.)

My tank looks really empty now, just a school of neons, plants, shrimp, and snails. I don't know if I want to get another discus, seeing as the ones at the LFS are crap and a good one is at least $65 shipped to me (for a 2 inch PB.)

Anyways, I'm just depressed about the whole thing and feeling like a ****ty fish keeper right now. I'm about ready to tear down the 35 forever.:(

Sorry for the loss bro. Discus are not that hard to keep...Next time get a group of them they don't like being alone. I also like to keep my tanks 84-86 degrees.

Sorry about your fish. Maybe it was an ilness from the LFS that you didn't know it still had? Like someone else said, go buy some more and just start over.

sorry you lost your discus. Sounds like you did alright though nursing him back health. Has anyone noticed that if you have one discus, it may school with other fish like angels, you could maybe try that.

Yep, my discus was the only one in the tank.

Other than being sick, he beat the crap out of any other fish that got near him in the LFS tank. The owner was going to freeze him. It was weird to watch, sick black fish hovering on it's side in the tank corner, then turning into a holy terror at the sight of another fish!

After he got out of my QT and into my 35 he killed three cories and a male ram. He just couldn't stand any fish bigger than a tetra. I didn't feel I had the room to put other discus in there anyways, since I would need to add at least three more (two only work if they're paired up, with three one is "odd man out".)
