i know where is he lol
does it swim much? how big it grow? not putting a downer, but whats its chances of survival? is the hard part of keeping it yet to come, or was the hard part it developing and hatching?
thefishofdoom
05-11-2006, 12:15 AM
it swims but it like walks on the sand more.it gets 36 to 48 inches.i realy dont know its chances but if it eats real good and since it hatch in my tank even better.i dont know if there is a hardeder part other than feeding but that be easy after the first few.
well congrats bro, i think that thing is awesome. keep us posted how things go with it

very cool indeed. Awesome looking little guy
Does look like a brown banded to me too
just a little info on the brown banded shark for other members:
General information:
These sharks live around coral reefs and tidepools. Interestingly, it can survive out of water for up to 12 hours. The cat shark family contains many species, usually distinguished by their different markings of stripes, bars, etc. Interestingly enough, the best known of the cat shark family is the dogfishes (which form a part of the catshark family). On the internet, brownbanded bamboo cat sharks are for sale, and it is clear that some people might attempt to keep them in their own aquariums. Bamboo sharks are egg-layers, with the eggs enclosed in elongated flattened egg-cases. In captivity, hatching can take up to four months.
Special anatomical, physiological or behavioral adaptations:
These sharks are not endangered at the moment. They tend to stay inshore near coral reefs and tidepools; however, they have fallen prey to fisheries in India and Thailand.
Also interesting is the fact that the gills of this shark are sometimes infested with the larva of isopods which is utilized as food. (The spiracles may be an adaptation for bottom dwelling which helps keep the sand out of the gills as the shark feeds).
These cat sharks have small "whiskers" which are called barbels. These are sensory organs which hang from each nostril.
Range: Indio-Pacific region. East coast of the Indian Peninsula to northern Australia.
Scientific name: Chiloscyllium punctatum
Diet in the wild: invertebrates/crustaceans

Cool shark bud. Only wish I had the space for a 300 gal tank. They only cost about 25 for an egg here. But getting to 4 ft it needs a large aquarium. Something about 4'x8'x2' would be decent. Also, you got the freaking laserbeams yet??
thefishofdoom
05-30-2006, 6:58 PM
no but thats my next step
wouldnt a 4ft shark need a slightly bigger tank than one 4ft wide? or do they just not swim much/highly flexible
thefishofdoom
05-30-2006, 8:23 PM
thats why im geting a 400 gallon rubbermaid its a circle with a 6 foot diamiter

Bamboos are the coolest when you see them hatch. The feeling is overwhelming thinking that a shark could come from an egg....
Justin_James
06-07-2006, 9:54 PM
Congrats on the hatching. I personally have 2 of them that hatched in my tank and they share the tank with a very large marine betta. They all get along awsome. The sharks even snuggle into eachouther when sleeping.
Dont feed it until it is 2 weeks old though because their stomach cant handle food that young and it could die. They can go over a month without food so dont worrie about that.
Oups sorry I didn't know I allready responded to this thread. Oh well. ;)
