My kickass freak of nature

I bought this little firecracker for $7 at the LFS because he was a known mutt. I love this fish, and he's still just a wee lad. I was way too intrigued by the JD/texas cross. And it's been fun shortening his like into one word. Best I came up with is jaxas, or if you're feeling silly "jackass" works well.

He does not stay so dark since my freddy's gone, which is amazing (makes his light tex colors show) but I've seen his fry-mates, and it seems I got the fish that shows the best of both species. He's only 3" now, but I can't wait to see how he grows up.

I bought him quite recently at about 2.5" and as of now he's only 3", maybe a tad more SL.

After seeing your pics, I realized that my "texas" is actually a "jaxas". I got it from a local breeder, and I'm sure it was not intentional. It's a handsome thug of 8 inches now, but these pics were taken at 6 inches. I think it's a nice fishie... :naughty:

Mine has really lightened up since my freddy is gone. He's doing well in the big community ATM. I was afraid he would raise hell before I could get him his own 75 or 90, but he's doing quite well and might just stay in the 125.

And ewurm, I believe your method to be far superior to mine, because you are providing top-quality entertainment. You're so giving.

Very nice fish-both of them. I have JD's and have owned a texas. It looks like you both have the best of both worlds.

Hard to say, but I'm looking forward to growing mine out!

I saw some other fish from the same clutch and it would seem I selected the best one of the bunch. I'm only guessing, but I expect my fish to top out in the 9" area.

Personally I have only ever seen ONE JD that got to 10", and the biggest (but probably not full-grown) texas I've seen was about 8." All I hope for is that he won't wreak havoc on my 125 before I can get him his own space if need be.

it looks exactly like the little guy I picked up months back and Ive been wondering what it is for months b/c I thought it was a JD but something was a little off so it had to be a mix with something, and it looks exactly like yours so maybe thats what my dude is o__o Anywho nice looking fish and a good pick up!

my little male tex is trying to put moves on my female dempsey as we speak!
i think the female demsey has some "blue" gean in her!!! look mat her in this pic!
o and the male jumped and died i think he was also half blue or somthing! best looking dempseys ive ever seen!!!!

he beat the :swear: out off that jag had to put him in a tank with fish twice his size. Yes that is a huge lump of sea rock in that tank it just fits through the lid.
