Hey, just thought I'd post an update pic of my c. anthurus male (suspected). The female (suspected) is currently hiding after stuffing her face at feeding time. I'll try to get some pics of her later.
Sorry for the crappy pic...

She decided to come out of hiding! She as a tear in her tail, it was like that when I bought her. hopefully it heals fully before too long.

Aye, does appear to be male and female. Cool beans mate!! Just wait till they hit about 6" to 8", those spots are going to EXPLODE on the male. LoL

That's funny, because that is a horrible pic. The spots shimmer, and the red in his dorsal and caudal really pop in person. I can't wait until they really start to color up!
And the white line is becoming really defined in the females dorsal. You can see it in the pic, but its much more prominent in person.

I'll be sure to update with more pics. Most of their current tankmates (shortnose gars and bluegill/sunfish) will be moving out into an outdoor pond as soon as I finish it, then they'll just be sharing the 55g tank with a senegal bichir and a Freddie. I'll probably redo the decor in it at that time as well, since I've got some really nice driftwood now.
Does anyone have any idea on a what size these guys get into breeding form? If these two do pair up, and decide they want to mate, I'd probably go to the trouble of doing what I can to help them spawn and raise some fry successfully.

Generally around 8" they should be ready to start spawning. Possibly smaller. :) You'll know when they are ready! LoL!

lol theyll whoop on everything in their tank. all pikes are really good parents from what i hear. that is if they are compatible

What would be a good size tank to keep this pair in for breeding purposes, if things work out that way?

55gal at the minimum. I'd go for 75gal or larger. Really, why would you want to give them the minimum? The bigger the tank, the better the chances. :)

I was just wondering. I'll give them the biggest tank I can. I mostly wanted to make sure this 55g would last for a while if I needed it to.

I have had Sveni, Sp. Pacaya and Sp. Belly Crawler spawn multiple times in 36" x 18" x 18" tanks, that would be 50gal or so. I have done an absolutely GIANT pair of "Lepidota" (12"+ male) in a 48" x 18 x 18 75 gal. No problems with either, as long as they are bonded. . . :D Never lost a female in the process, I have had females kill males after spawns though.
