Picked him up a couple of weeks ago from Craigslist. He's probably already grown over an inch. Right now he's growing out in an 80, soon to go to a 120, etc

He's quickly becoming my favorite too. I got him from craigslist and the previous owner only fed him live food and worms. Which is probably why he at that guys baby silver aro.

I've been feeding him worms ever since. I've tried hikari carnivore pellets which he'll scoop up and then spit back out. But just recently he started eating freeze dried krill, so thats a plus. I've given him a few feeder guppies that I've been breeding, to try to vary his diet, but I want to get him out of the habit of live food. I'm not trying to tie worms around frozen shrimp, but he will eat the worm and spit out the shrimp...so we'll see.

I've tried and I can't get mine broken from live food. I tried many different kinds of food and feeding at different times. He would eat some pellets but only when he was absolutly starving. He started to get so skinny that his head was sinking in so I gave up. Part of the problem for me was my giant gourami which eats everything as soon as it hits the water. Moby (my TSN) always eats in his own time. He never eats right when I put the food in no matter how hungry he is. Plus he got soooo depressed when I stopped giving him feeders. He would hardly move at all. I'm sure that is partly due to him not getting enough nurishment as well but either way I just want my fish to be as happy as I can make them. So I'm going to start breeding convicts to accomidate his eating habits.

my little tsns didn't want anything but live food but after a little while they all are eatting shrimp....how big is he to have taken out an aro?...looks nice

Definitely needs to be off live, but, frankly, I don't think it totally matters if these guys were raised on live or not if they are going to eat tankmates. You can generally expect that they will one way or another. I'm not saying they should eat live (as I am always concerned about parasites), but just don't count on ever breaking them of their instincts. :) I started my guys out on live worms, blood worms and frozen krill, but always feed pellets in the mix as well. I don't believe they ate any pellets right away, but they did eventually. Basically, I just got them fat on everything else, meanwhile having the temperature up around 80 and feeding frequently. Once they were bulked up and their metabolism was high, I fed pellets only and then an hour later would throw in a couple things to make sure they never starved. It worked really well with my guys and they're about 22-25" at a year old.

Thanks everyone. Yeah, I'm currently breeding guppies, but I treat them more as a treat for the fish. I'm also planning on breeding cons, once I get another tank setup.

He loves worms right now...thats about the only thing he attacks as soon as it hits the water. I've been throwing in 3-4 pieces of freeze dried krill and it usually all disappears. He kind of stalks it, feels it with his whiskers and then swims away. Then he'll come back 5 minutes later and strike. So that makes me happy.

I've been giving him a worm and the krill every night and then just krill in the morning. I usually throw in a few pellets at each feeding too. As of late, his belly always looks full.

He was probably 9-10 inches when I got him a couple of weeks ago and he's easily grown an inch or two since I got him. The guy said the aro was just a baby, maybe 5-6 inches. I don't think he ate the whole aro, just most of him. Seriously though, the guy had him in a 55g with an aro and a clown knife. He actually asked me if I knew anyone wanting to sell an 80 because he didn't think the 55 would hold them. I told the guy he might want to look for something A LOT bigger.
