I had a 12" gar that has just disappeared. No were to be found. I have a 14" female and two 10" males that are breeding :D. Could she have eaten him or what. I have torn that pond apart. No sign. Was just wondering if anyone has run into this. There is not one body part that i can find.

its very possible. my rays have torn fish apart and swallow them piece by piece...

What? It was the BOOGY MONSTER!

...yeah, there is a possibility that he got torn up into peices, but more likely jumped out IMO. Someone been fishing in your pond??? Sorry for the loss man.

My guess would be it got out some how, and then flopped across the floor out of site.

They can jump out of small holes and live a while out of water. Start by checking under the sofa. I doubt they ate him at 12" with no remains.

Ive torn the downstaris apart and found nothing. I thought the same thing.

Your rays I'm sure wouldn't have finished a gar that big in a short time and there would also be remains. Could it have gotten into your fllter. This is causing your smell so it has to be rotting somewhere.

i could see the rays eating everything but the bony snout/skull of a 12" gar unless the rays are just massive.... such a conundrum....

I did a water change today and still didnt find any remains of a gar. I dont have but a couple of stuctures in the pond and i moved them and found nothing. She must have ate every bit of him.

Sounds possible but i wouldnt have been suprised if it had jumped.

We do have a dog, but he only goes downstairs when we go down, doesn't have free run down there. There aren't too many places he could have squirmed to if he did jump out. We have looked everywhere in the family room down there. Only 2 pieces of furniture. We have a 10 inch Royal Clown Knife in there as well (he never bothers anyone though) and 2 Synodotis Decorus. The Synos would have easily cleaned up small parts, but wouldn't have messed with a large carcass. The RCK is capable of swallowing some pretty good size bites, but can't imagine him taking in the snout & skull of the gar...will probably remain an unsolved mystery....

Well the update....I found the gars fins in the pond today. So we figured out where he went just like i thought he did. So the mystery is solved. Thanks for any insite.
