Can somebody ID this fish for me? Caught it last year.
White bass vs yellow bass?

Pretty sure it is a white, been years since I've caught any. Aren't the markings on yellows less distinct and the back color brassier?

looks like a striped bass rockfish or what ever they call them where u from. if it was caught in a imp[oundment of freash watter probly hybrid cross of striper and a white bass

Trout guy, you are def correct, Found good photo on a fisheries site, broken bars are the quick key, average size around 1 lb. My memory betrayed me, sign of a misspent youth.

The pic is a yellow bass (Morone mississippiensis). It has a deeper body than the white bass (Morone chrysops) and the 2 dorsal fins are joined.

are you sure its not a swiper the cross of white bass and striper for fresh watter lakes? They man made. looks like a rock fish to me and broken lines make me think its the swiper hybrid verssion. But ima go with yo oddball you no alittle more then me but that what it look lik in my eye

It could be a hybrid but, the broken bars is not an indicator of hybridization. The striped bass (Morone saxatilis) can have broken bars at the gut region. The yellow bass, M. miss. has broken bars above the anal fin area. And, the white bass, M. chrysops can have broken bars at the 2nd dorsal fin area. Of these 3 species, the yellow bass is the only one with the 2 dorsal fins connected. Both the yellow and hybrid-striped bass are caught in the waters around here and I've never seen a hybrid with the connected dorsal fins. However, that doesn't mean it could never happen. It just means I haven't seen it yet.
