Some of you may know that I went fish collecting last Sunday at a local river and caught one lone fish. It was a darter of some kind, I don't wich one though, that's a brownish color. I'm keeping it in a 10g tank with one juvinile Ameca splendas. The tank has six or seven rock ranging in sizes from large to small. There are no plants in the tank at the time. I'll get picures later my camera's not avalible right now. I have a few questions about the darter though. They are:
1. Should I keep plants in the tank
2. What will it eat because it won't take the flakes and freezedried brine shrimp I offer it (at lest hat I've seen)
If anybody can help that would be great. I'll get pictures as soon as possible

It is your choice whether or not you want plants. They aren't necessary, but I will note that my darters do jump in and on my plants. I fed my juvenile rainbow darters micro pellets and they are now feeding on frozen bloodworms. They haven't taken any flakes or any other pellets (carnivore/shrimp) that I've thrown in. They like their food moving so you should have a good flow of water.

My darters ate frozen blood worms best. Over time they ate flake food, the black banded darters would eat flake food at the surface.

you dont need plants, they generally dont come out of streams with many plants because they stay in the shallower higher current areas.
mine ate everything. if it was tossed into the tank, they came to eat it. they ate flake, pellets, frozen live you name it. i really miss those guys too. i just miss natives in general.

Darters love glassworms and bloodworms, but mine eat flakes as well. I would start with frozen worms.

Man I just cheaked the tank and the darter was sitting on top of the biggest peice of limestone in the tank (it's white for those that don't know) which is the perfect color in contrast to the darter. If I can find the camera I can get a pictur or two of it.

Darters do love places to hide, although mine are very social. I put in a bunch of small rocks and some driftwood. I would post pics of the tank, but we know what would happen.
