I'm planning to make a 200 gallon aquarium (80"x24"x24") and want to add an overflow that drains to a filter below the tank.

It's my first time making an internal overflow so this is my question. Will a 1.5" or 2" diameter straight pipe as shown in the picture around 22 inches in length create a lot of noise, as I've read many time in this forum?

i don't know, but i guess it would be better to put a 180o elbow so water enters from under. the elbow would need a lil hole on top for air... are you following me?

Yup, I've read about the DIY durso pipe but I'm hoping to keep it real simple

one thing that helps if you don't wanna do the durso, use a bigger pipe above the bulkhead than what you are plumbing too, basically if you have 1 1/2" pipe and bulkhead, go 2" with the stand pipe, don't know why it works, but it does normally help a lot.

if you check out chompers threads he has a solution for that type of overflow and noise
it believe he used a pen and some netting.... probably hard to imagine but you need something to brake up the cascading effect,,,, search his setups or shoot him a pm ..... oh and a durso is very simply and very quite but good luck

and another thought some people put a ball valve under the tank in line with this over flow.... you close it slightly until it creates a back pressure but not to much were your restricting much flow, this should also reduce noise
