Here's my latest bichir....an 11 inch Polypterus bichir lapradei. This is the color variant that Toyin is selling as the "Guinea lapradei".

how big's that specie get, fruitbat? is he active, or a log?

This one gets close to 30 inches and so far it has been reasonably active. Of course I've only had it a couple of days but it has colored up nicely and is eating thawed 'krill' eagerly. I'm going to try it on Hikari Sinking Carnivore Pellets in a day or so.

I had one of those, but he died in my tank after about two weeks. Got some kind of slime coat problem, and died in my 30 gallon hospital tank. I've got to get another one of those. I have a butikoferi, an ornate, an albino senegalus, an endlocheri, a retropinnis, and a delhezi. Gotta get em all, lol.

I have one of these too but I think I have a Nile Bichir instead of a lap. I think this because of the black banding on it's hind quarters and dorsal. Laps don't have this.

Their colors must vary a bit then, i like the green in yours!

This is mine i got from Toyin about a month ago

Street Cypher....

Mine looks very much like yours but a slight bit more green. The flash on the camera really picks the green up on these fish. I'll try to post some more shots in the near future.

way cool! love the green color of your lapradei, just wondering how do you differentiate a lapradei from a bichir bichir?

way cool! love the green color of your lapradei, just wondering how do you differentiate a lapradei from a bichir bichir?

finlet count is the easiest way to tell difference.
lapradei has aprox. 13 finlets.
bichir bichir has aprox 16 finlets.

My bichir tanks range in size from 10 gallon (grow-out for bichirs less than 6 inches) to 20 gallon long (for 6 - 10 inch fish) to 30 gallon long (for a few adults of the smaller species) to 100 gallons for the bigger species and individuals.
