I've originally wanted koi but a friend of mine told me his koi ate all his lilly pads. I have lillies as my main plant and want to keep it that way. Will koi do th same to me and are goldfish a safer bet? TIA

Lilly pads are fine, they will eat some types but not others for some reason. My uncle got some wild ones out of a local lake and they don't even bother them. Then he paid $40 for a lilly plant that was supposed to have blue flowers and it was a tropical type and they domolished it in 5min after being in the pond. You don't know until you try, my uncle has had the wild lilly pad for 12 years along with some of the koi and no problems.
They haven't come out in full force yet but you can see them and how big some of the koi are.

Oh he also has pacus and tinfoil barbs, and both will eat plant matter and they both leave them alone as well, he also keeps goldfish as well.

I think Koi would tear up most plants. Mine did.
