Here's mine, but the pic is older. My fish is much bigger than the pic, they grow very fast. I started with a 1.5" fish in Sept. and he is now 12". Start him on pellets as soon as he is old enough to eat them. If you need help, let me know.

I've wanted to keep some of the fish that I have caught over the years, but I feel sorry for them, you know, living in an entire lake, and then being put in a 125 gal. tank.
Plus, I never catch anything that small. :naughty:

they can stand a range of temp just like most other fish the temp stayed at 80 like always when i got him he was 5 inches the tank was only a 37, sadly they grow very fast and i couldent get him off live food i'll prolly never catch one tat small again, but i released him back into the pond i caught him from, it was a great expirience tho, i had him about 2 weeks

Heres some pics of my two bass, a lm and a sm. When I got them they were at about 4" now there close to 6" maybe alittle more. They grow fast, Ive only had them for about 6 weeks. They eat alot too, mostly minnows that I catch from local creeks but also the occasional small crawdad. Now I need to try and get them on pellets!

Maybe I'm a wuss, because I don't feel right taking them from a lake and then put them into a fish tank.:( :( IMO I don't think it's right.:( It's still a really nice fish.

Keeping a fish from a lake and putting it into an aquarium is probably better than keeping a fish and eating it lol. But many fish in the aquarium trade get it worse than that, they get crammed into a bag and shipped overseas from the wild.

in all seriousness your making it easier fr them giving them there own food everyday they dont have to hunt, besides when you buy fish in the store that were laboratory bred your really depriving them of would could of been a life in the open water, its all the same, i dont think your a wuss lol
I had a 3" Smallmouth a few years ago, it was gorgeous. Seined it from the river that runs behind my moms place. Bass are very trainable as well as beautiful. Been contemplating getting another one to put in my 125g. when its done but finding quality feeders around here in the winter time is impossible.

You could go to a bait shop and buy minnows, IMO they are much healthier feeders than the ones you can buy at the lfs.

lol, dont say u trained him to sit and stay
yes minnows u buy from a bait shop are much healthier and cheaper, but if anyone cathes a bass and is gona keep it you should get him started on pellets right away, unless u can sustain feeders everyday this is much easier

Just because bass won't eat pellets or flakes does not mean you must buy feeders or baitfish constatly. I find that most bass will take frozen fish foods without a problem along with crickets (and other insects, many that can be bought at the LFS), earthworms, crayfish, frozen shrimp and other similer food stuffs. They are all cheaper in the long run and safer.

I kept several large mouths for 3 years, they are a riot. They are very territorial and will put the case on most anything that they can. I would go to the store and get 4 dozen medium feeders and dump the works in, they would stay at the bottom and wait for the goldie's to school up, and then shoot through the school catching 8-10 in one pass, all that would be around would be little gold scales. The would take turns and the hole works would be gone in under 5 minutes. The kids loved it. I had tow bull head catfish as well they would try for scraps. I would go to the bait shop and get 3 dozen dew worms and hold the worm with a set of long tank tools and they would come and play tug a war with me it was great. I only fed once a week, so the action was crazy. good luck with him.

Mine too, the sm is more of a picky eater, and it gets scared easier. The advantage of a sm is that they dont grow as large, 18" is a big one!

I had two lmb in my tank and they would hunt feeder minnows together. They would trap them in a corner of a tank and then bust through the school grabbing as many as they could.
