Check this out,I went into my LFS and they had this female Butti that came out of a heated 8000gal pond. Its 15"!!! The Red Devil in the background is 8"...

Love these fish..and always will..great photo's. Today at my work we got a red devil cichlid so we were thinking of placing it with the butti..but as soon as we dropped the bag in the tank(so the water can warm up) the butti tried to rip the bag open.you gotta love them..lol

Not sure who it was,I can find out though.Also,I was told that the dude had this 8000 gal heated pond in a greenhouse and he got rid of the Butti because she was tearing up his 2ft irridescent sharks...
Super nice fish. That would be cool to see in person.

Beautiful specimen mate probably my favorite fish of all time. They will kill damn enar anything, even with the small mouth they have. I love watching them turn bright white when they fight it's amazing.

My uncle had one for years, died of old age at about 15" also. Was HUGE! It lived alone because it would kill/eat anything he put in the tank with it.

If it is it cocks up my sexing technique, at least for that size anyway.
Do females get higher/taller when they get reallybig, and to butties lips generally get bigger when they get older?

I see those in chinatown as live food all the time, looking starved and beaten. Once in awhile, though, I see a good-looking specimen that must have been a breeder and think about sneaking it home, but I have no room!

Yeah,possitive,her "egg tube" was very noticable. From what i gather of the Buttis with the pair I have is that the females have a vrey sloped forehead and the males have more of a rounded forehead,almost like a semi-nuchel.And im not sure if their lips get bigger but I know they are big in general and my favorite thing about the Buttis are how they like to push their lips up against the glass to make it look like they're snarling,love it!

I have a 10" male Midas and a mating pair of Dovii with them and it works fine for me...
