I have just got myself three of the best looking snakeheads I have ever seen. They do look like the Galaxy blue on Tom Halvorsons website which does not do them any justice, I will try to get some pics up. They were captured up high in the Meghalaya region. There is discussion about whether they are Stewarti variants, now I have seen them they do look like Stewarti but not enough for me. I may of course be completely wrong.
It has been suggested that they like cooler water Max 20 C which is my problem as my room temp is 23 C and I am finding it very difficult to bring the temp down. I don’t have anywhere cooler to put them. Do any of you guys have any ideas, a small water cooler or something that would help me out. I would be very grateful. Cheers Please help.
They also look like an image I have seen that has been sent to Snakeheads.org, on some other forums, their reply
This is indeed an Channa sp. and we strongly believe that this is a
very rare species from the Meghalaya range,
which is called (by the exporter - there is only one exporting this
fish)
"trueBlue".
P. Musikasinthorn suggests it to be a color form of C. stewartii. We do
also have those fishes (Both trueBlues and stewartiis), but believe it
is an own species.
Whatever the systematics.
This fish needs COLD WATER, yes! Not more than 20 C°!
(We keep ours at 15 C° at the moment!)
Check Shillong (capital of Meghalaya) air temperature here

This is a very rare and expensive fish. We believe you have a male. It
lives in small streams of mountain ranges above 4000 ft.!
We have best experiences adding tons of roots to the tank. They seem
that they do not like plants to much.
A feature of NE Channa is that those are mouthbrooders which start
breeding after a winter hibernation (thats what ours do at 15 C°. In
two months when the water temp increases and water changes are done
more often, they merge to couples.

PICTURES!!!!
nice one jelly. Looking forward to see some pics. I think i've seen a couple of those snakeheads in a LFS back home, they kinda looked like a mix between a stewartii and the galaxy blue snakeheads picture on Tom's site.. Really wanted to get them but no space...

cool
These SH's are extreamly good looking fish and cost me a few pounds.
They are not eating at the moment, I have never had a Snakehead that didn't eat as soon they hit the tank water. which is why I am concerned that the temp is making them uncomftable. The problem I have at the moment is the temperature which I can not get down low enough. I've had a look for some form of water cooling but can't find anything other than expensive units designed for marine systems.

In the past I have used water out off the tank put into ice cream tubs and frozen then drop them in the tank. Used to use this to get Oscars to spawn.
Thanks Stotty I will give that a go.
I got three of them, All they had.
I have a pic, Not great but you get the idear.

MAN... that is beautiful.. Absouletly stunning. I've seen a picture of a channa like that before...
hope you dont mind jelly but this is the pic i was talking about, looks a lot like yours
Sexy sexy channa jelly I am most jealous. How did you acquire them if you don't mind me asking? I would try sqratch's idea of directing a fan at the water surface and leaving the lights off to cool the water. Incidentally my stewartii didn't feed for several days after getting them. Also if they are from cooler water there is potential that their metabolism may be slower, and also that food in that kind of habitat would be more scarce than in warmer conditions, so this may have something to do with it. Good luck, and more pics please

Jelly, totally awesome SH.. very hot! Fantastic colours!! What you can try to do is if you have a sump or something or a canister filter with the power on the top and a bucket style at the bottom, is you can submerse it in a larger bucket of cool/cold ice water… the temps will regulate themselves eventually… what about a peliter cooling system?
Something like a PC cooling system.. but.. well… different. =)
Good luck with them! They look freaking hot!

I have been in contact with snakeheads.org and they have said that they do lose the blue colouring. If they turn out like that I wont be disapointed at all.

I just got myself a juvenile Giant Snakehead.
Not as pretty as yours (they're absolutely lovely!),
but I sure love this guy's ferocity.
*WHUMP!* and there goes the feeder in a brilliant shower of shiny scales... :headbang2

No Problem. Theres a shop down my way (Down South) Wildwoods, that always has a really good selection of Snakeheads I think they have five species at the moment excluding mine as bought all of them and very good with Oddballs. They deal directly with a guy in Asia. They are sometimes expensive. I had told him a little while ago I was after sp. me$£$^%$ Leapard, Can't remember how to spell it. They went to that region and got these. They do have something called Lime green Punctata at the moment which are even more expencive than the guys I bought. I was tempted but have now spent my fish money for the next couple of months.
I have heard from the guys at snakeheads.org that they eat nothing other than live bloodworms so I have to go get some supplies.

A peltier is a heating/cooling unit, it’s typically found in those crappy drink chillers (you know for the cars/caravans) usually at your local electronic shop. They usually get the ambient temp down 5 or 10 degrees, being a computer d0rk people also hook them up to cool their CPU for over clocking, they can freeze up so they aren’t suggested.. I wouldn’t know how to hook up a fish friendly cooler, you could get a large amount of plastic hose and roll it up into one of those little chillers (the longer the hose the more it will cool) and drill 2 holes into the lid/base of the cooler and have a water pump to pump the water thru the cooler, thus making the tube water a tad cooler… this may work, I wouldn’t see why not? You could purchase a 2nd hand mini0bar fridge.. :P
Remove your tank lids, open up your sump door.. use air pumps to air rate the water (allowing more movement, this cools the temp down.
But I would suggest .. buy a small fridge, drill some holes in the door, run a heap of hose in coils and attach a pump to push the water thru

:P good luck!
