pretty sure its called a flying gurnard over here, as the name suggests not only do they jump, they can glide for long distances to escape predators (or just for fun).
When i was out game fishing i saw one glide from one swell peak to another which would of been a good 20 metres. Was AMAZING to see!

Few things: Not a Northern/Striped Searobin like up here in NY. It's a Bluefin Gurnard from the Tropical Pacific. Not a Flying Gurnard they have a Puffer-like face. This fish along with several other Searobins is called a Gurnard. They also don't jump, although if you've ever hooked into a big Northern Searobin from land with light tackle you know that they can if they want, but they're bottom feeders.

Yup go fluke/flounder fishing in nj lower ny area catch sea robins. First time I caught one I was amazed. Then one of the crew on the party boat I was on said they are garbage unhooked and threw it back into the ocean. I guess they aren't favorful hahaha.
