If Equal in size could you keep a Gold Belly piranha & a saber toothed tetra in a 55 G?

first of all I have never heard of a gold belly piranha. The only fish I could think it could be is a Pygocentrus Piraya or a Serrasalmus Spiloplurea (sp?) Either one could NOT be kept with another fish. If it is the latter even fish of its own kind can not be kept in the same tank. If it is a p. piraya you could keep any fish of the pygocentrus family such as Caribe or Nattererii.

Yeah dude, the following is for ALL NEWBS on piranhas:

You CAN NOT keep ANYTHING with a piranha. There are exceptions out there, such as plecos, tetras, etc, but chances are, they WILL be FOOD sooner or later.

Unless you want a school of Pygos (which even that can be dangerous/fatal at times), just about EVERY species of piranhas are solitary animals in the home aquarium. There are exceptions, such as the S. geryi, or S. spilo, but you're better off having them live alone.

If you CAN'T deal with the fact that they can't live with other tankmates, THEN DON'T GET A FREAKIN' PIRANHA.

END OF THE STORY.

gold piranhas grow pretty big don't they, i don't know if it woud be a good idea to keep it AND another fish especially if it grows to 'equal size' in that 55gal tank... i may be wrong but i though these fish need loads of room, especialy the mean gold and black ones!!! i have heard its usually a min of 20gal a fish, but i don't think they take into account how BIG these piranhas can get!! 12inches i heard...??? anyway, hope i havn't just spurted out a load of horse CR*P, lol... sorry if i have...

Spilos do not get that big. A 55 galon should be fine for life. I would be surprised if one got past 10" in an aquarium. The largest Ps are P. Piraya and S. Manuelli each reportedly attaining 2ft in the wild!
